I'm trying to install some pear packages such as gnupg in a Ubuntu OS in virtualbox, but if i use sudo pecl install gnupg, it throws
No releases available for package "pecl.php.net/gnupg"
It is not only happening for gnupg, but for all pear packages. But i couldn't identify what exactly the issue is. The same command is working in my another virtual machine. So i'm really confused. Please help.

read.xls() from gdata package fails with “no lines available in input”
location: linuxexchange.com - date: May 12, 2012
I am using read.xls() from the gdata package to read Excel workbooks where each workbook has one sheet. The read fails with the following error.
Error in read.table(file = file, header = header, sep = sep, quote = quote, :
no lines available in input
I can't figure out the error. sheetCount() returns the following error.
Error in scan(file, what, nmax, sep, dec, quote, skip, nlines, na.strings, :
line 161 did not have 13 elements
But this is odd, because the workbook has 27 columns. And nothing seems out of the ordinary for rows 161+/-1 or columns 13+/-1.
Throughout the workbook repeated entries are blank and you're expected to manually extend them down (which is impractical for the 750+ workbooks that I would like to read).
I tried manually setting quote='' and quote='\'', but these don't change the output. Is my problem that read.xls() sees some rows as ragged but not others? Any pointers? (I tried the
No apache MPM package installed error
- date: February 11, 2013
I am running Ubuntu 11.10 and I am trying to install apache2 but I had not luck .
What I did :
sudo apt-get install apache2
After that , the next should be "start the service" , with a simple
sudo /etc/init.d/apache2 start
BUT , I get this >> "No apache MPM package installed"
:/# sudo /etc/init.d/apache2 start
No apache MPM package installed
I tried to figure out what is the problem finding in google but all I did was to waste my time, I tried to re-install everything a couple of times and same result , Now I am out of ideas so that is why I am asking here. I hope that someone could be able to help me .
Thanks you so much.
6.06 LTS updates no longer available?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: August 23, 2011
I have a 6.06LTS server that needs samba updated to 3.0.28+ to resolve an issue with Win2008, but it appears the repositories for 6.06 are no longer online. I tried to do a dist-upgrade to 8.04LTS, but this also failed. Is there a list of repositories I can use to allow this work?
Ubuntu Server 12.10 Monitor in Standby / no console available
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: October 20, 2012
Yesterday I installed Ubuntu Server 12.10 on my machine (Intel Atom D2700 on its D2700MUD board with integrated graphics (should be GMA3600 or GMA 3650). After finishing install and rebooting the monitor does not get a signal and goes into standby right after choosing Ubuntu in GRUB.
Monitor in StandbySSH availableSystem booted "correctly" (except graphics)
I already searched for that issue and found many solutions, but no one is working for me.
In general I tried changing booting params in GRUB (nomodeset, vga, nosplash, etc) and nothing worked. I also tried to use DVI instead of VGA but this didn't change anything. At least I played a bit with activating uvesafb and updating initramfs. Additional i changed boot params in GRUB to use uvesafb. After that also nothing changed except i got some kernel log information (i think this is only because of i removed the quiet option). Then i installed fbset via SSH and put it into /etc/rc.local for testing purposes and finally i got

SCSI Drive No Longer Available After FAT32 Format
location: linuxquestions.com - date: September 30, 2004
I have a problem with my hard disks and partitions.
Brief Machine spec:
AMD Athlon 1800+ XP
40GB IDE HDD (Connected to primary IDE port on MoBo)
2 x 18GB SCSI HDD (Connected to Hewlett Packard RAID card)
Dual Boot SuSE 9.1 Pro / Win XP Pro
I originally had the following partitions (excessive? I know):
Windows XP (C:\ Drive) - NTFS
XP Program Files - NTFS
Shared Data - NTFS
SuSE Swap - Swap
SuSE / - Reiser
Music - NTFS
Everything was running great until I decided to reformat the Shared
Data and Music partitions to use FAT32 so that data could be more reliably shared
between SuSE and Windows.
I formatted the partitions as FAT32 using Windows but when I booted to
SuSE the Shared Data partition is no longer available. Not only is the partition
not available but it would appear the Linux no longer sees the whole
If I try mounting the drive usi

First. I am not a programmer. But I feel safe enough to edit a file (after backing it up of course.)
I am using Arch with Enlightenment (E17.) I installed fwbuilder. Now when I click on the tutorial button it would not start my browser at all. The terminal gave this error;
