No sound ANYWHERE Linux Mint 10
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: February 3, 2011
I successfully installed Linux Mint 10 but there is no sound whatsoever from any application. I tried adjusting the volume sliders with no luck.
Dummy audio output was the only option for audio in my sound panel.
I tried installing alsamixer and now Simultaneous output is the only option, with no change in performance.
When I shut down, a command screen appears for a split second before the Mint log off screen. There is a command that says " pulseaudio configured for per user sessions". I'm not sure if this is the root of the problem, or how to reconfigure.
Any advice at all would be appreciated. If I've left out any important information, please excuse me, as I am new to Linux.

Lost sound after downloading MP3 using Sound Recorder. Tried playing on other computer but no sound was recorded. Went to Control Center and sound and changed the Hardware settings to see if I could get it to record sound. Tried several settings but no sound. Now there is no sound from my speakers at all. No startup sound, Utube sound and can't play music. Went back into Sound Hardware settings and tried them all but failed to get sound back. I have dual boot with Windows XP Home/Linux. Sound still works fine in Windows XP.
I am running HP Compaq Presario, AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3400+, BIOS Ver. 3.36

[SOLVED] No sound in Linux Mint
location: linuxquestions.com - date: July 9, 2014
I have installed Linux Mint 17 Mate. I worked very well for many many days. However, today suddenly the sound system has stopped making any sound. Linux Mint is producing any sound, whatever audio/video player I use. How can I fix it?
Update: The sound system in Mate Control Center is making sound, however VLC/MPlayer are not producing any sound. But audacious is making sound.
PS. Other OSes are producing sounds correctly.

No Sound in Firefox + Flash 10 + Linux Mint

I'm not sure why, but I thought this OS was fine out of the box. Turns out my flash 10 sound doesn't work. I'm new to Linux, and not sure if the kernel version matters, but I don't know how to get the kernel version. I have tried some commands with Root Terminal, don't know the commands off the top of my head right now, but those commands returned errors saying something like, parameters not defined.. something like that. Any other sound seems to work. Also I do not understand the difference between the standard desktop and Gnome? I don't know but I am using Knome. Any other sounds seem to work, like Linux sounds, and Rhythmbox Music Player. What is weird though is my sounds stop working when returning from idle/hibernate mode, and I have to re-login to fix the sound again. What's up with this sweet OS, that seems rough around the edges. I thought this was supposed to be way better than Microsoft OS's? Seems complicating in some areas like sound issues and Aircrack, I have s

Ubuntu 10.10 vs Linux Mint 10
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: November 23, 2010
I've been looking at reviews for Linux Mint. So far, it sounds pretty good. The one thing I see come up more often is the better driver support is seem to offer over Ubuntu. I've used Linux Mint 9 quite a bit, but only played around with Mint 10 rc for a few days in VB. While I was impressed, it has never really tempted me to switch from Ubuntu. Though I like Mint, I feel far more at home using Ubuntu, so would never give up Ubuntu for it.
What does the community think about the comparison between the two in terms of stability, support, and others?

Which one do you like more? I am not sure which one to choose? Really its going to be down to which one is faster and how much you can customize the desktop. I didn't put 11.04 because of the fact it runs unity and I only really want gnome.
