No sound in KUbuntu 14.10, only Dummy output device listed
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: January 11, 2015
Fresh and new installation of Kubuntu 14.10. Same problem with some recent live dvd (ubuntu gnome 14.10 and others). This issue is not present with Ubuntu 14.04. My soundcard is Hercules "Game Theater XP 5.1".
Tried this command:
sudo alsa force-reload
Unloading ALSA sound driver modules: snd-cs46xx snd-ac97-codec snd-pcm snd-seq-midi snd-seq-midi-event snd-rawmidi snd-seq snd-seq-device snd-timer.
Loading ALSA sound driver modules: snd-cs46xx snd-ac97-codec snd-pcm snd-seq-midi snd-seq-midi-event snd-rawmidi snd-seq snd-seq-device snd-timer.
So it seems ok to me.
I tried to uninstall and reinstall with these commands:
sudo apt-get remove --purge alsa-base pulseaudio
sudo apt-get install alsa-base pulseaudio
This is the output of the second command:

Ubuntu 10.10 vs Linux Mint 10
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: November 23, 2010
I've been looking at reviews for Linux Mint. So far, it sounds pretty good. The one thing I see come up more often is the better driver support is seem to offer over Ubuntu. I've used Linux Mint 9 quite a bit, but only played around with Mint 10 rc for a few days in VB. While I was impressed, it has never really tempted me to switch from Ubuntu. Though I like Mint, I feel far more at home using Ubuntu, so would never give up Ubuntu for it.
What does the community think about the comparison between the two in terms of stability, support, and others?

I have a little issue.
I have netbook Asus EEE PC 1001PX (he's got only one jack for headphone and mic, i dont' know how this could work... but anyway)
I have no sound from headphone, from speakers is ok.
I've already edit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf and insert the options snd-hda-intel model=asus at the bottom, still nothing.
I've try also to uninstal linux-backports-wireless... and still nothing.

[SOLVED] No sound in Ubuntu and Mint 10 and 12
location: linuxquestions.com - date: April 19, 2012
Hello! I am completely new with Linux and have tried to install Mint 12 and 10 and a new version of Ubuntu by using unetbootin (usb) on a "Asus EEEBox EB1012P-B014E ION2". The problem is that I never get any sound. I have tried to change all the available settings for sound but nothing helps. I have the computer connected to a tv by hdmi but I have also tried to connect earphones directly to the computer but it did not help. Any suggestions? Thanks. /Carola
Linux Mint Debian No Sound
location: linuxquestions.com - date: June 2, 2012
Here's my problem. I have LXDE and pulse audio is crap on LXDE. Sound cuts in and out when I'm watching videos and it's frustrating. Last night I got fed up. I found the actual drivers for my soundcard and installed them. Problem is, they weren't configured properly. I found out what the vendor ID was and tried to correct this to no avail. So, I downloaded and installed the Alsa drivers but that was a bust too. Now I'm working on a linux pc without sound. I warn you ahead of time I am a newbie to LXDE but I can get around pretty well. I'd prefer to use the manufacturers drivers if possible. If not, I want the ALSA. Pulse Audio is too unstable on LXDE. Any help would be appreciated.
I forgot to add. I know I have a realtek audio device. Controller is AC97 The ID is ALC888.
Also, my pc is an Acer E380.
Further, I managed to uninstall the alsa drivers and the pulse audio completely. Then I re-installed the realtek drivers but still no sound. Any thoughts on why this is? Clearly
[SOLVED] No sound using flash? (Linux Mint 13 (MAYA))
location: linuxquestions.com - date: July 16, 2012
I've been stuck with this problem for 2 days now, and I have had it before. I do not have sound coming from flash (so youtube videos, most likely) and can't seem to find how to fix it. I've been messing with the alsa settings, I've tried the mixer too, nothing is muted.
I had this problem on Kubuntu 11.10 too, where it would stop randomly and wouldn't come back until I rebooted my computer. At least I could get sound on there.
Now i'm running Mint 13 (Maya) and it seems like my sound's gone for good. Seems like it's a problem with flash, and that it's a common problem for Asus users (which is my case).
I am running an Asus G51J.
Here's my lspci output (I have 2 sound devices) :

Linux Mint 17, PBIS 8.01 No sound on AD Logon
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: August 4, 2014
I have no sound when I authenticate to AD. When I logon with an AD account I also have the software rendering mode message. If I logon with a local account I do not have this problem.
