No sound on Red hat Linux enterprise version 3.0
location: linuxquestions.com - date: March 31, 2007
HI Everybody. I am TVK, new member to this forum. I installed Red Hat Linux WS3 recently in my desktop PC. I found out I have no sound in my system. I have sound blaster16 sound card installed in the system. My sound card detection worked fine. I heared the test sound. But when I play a video from the news program, there is no sound. No sound coming from my cd players either.
/var/log/messages give the following messages:
Mar 31 10:05:10 localhost kernel: es1371: Enabling internal amplifier.
Mar 31 10:05:10 localhost kernel: ac97_codec: AC97 Audio codec, id: (Unknown)
Mar 31 10:05:10 localhost modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module sound-service-0-3
Mar 31 11:13:59 localhost kernel: cdrom: This disc doesn't have any tracks I recognize!
I appreciate your help to fix this problem.
Thank you, TVK.

HP servers running Red Hat Linux Enterprise/ Inquisitor
location: linuxquestions.com - date: September 28, 2009
I'd like to know a few things about Inquisitor.
I just gave 3 servers to a customer in demo. Two HP DL380 G6 and a ML350T06; all three running Red Hat Linux Enterprise.
The customer now asked me to send "someone" to run Inquisitor on the 3 machines for benchmark testing (customer doesn't believe manufacturers benchmark tests).
One of my technicians will perform those tests but he doesn't know anything about Inquisitor.
Do you know Inquisitor and could you provide me tips and tricks? Are there booby traps?
Oh, and in case my tech doesn't remember how to put files on a USB stick... how do you do that in Linux from the root cmd? Basically Inquisitor will provide test results and my tech has to put those results on the USB stick.
thanks in advance !

Commands not working in Red Hat Linux Enterprise 5
location: linuxquestions.com - date: August 18, 2009
Weird things happening,
I wanted to see the drives and used the fdisk -l command (in "su" mode). But it says "Bad Command". Also I remember unix had a command uname -X which also isn't working.
Also Red Hat Linux Enterprise 5 doesn't go into "Suspend" mode?
Whats going on??? Can anyone tell me?
Red Hat Linux Enterprise V5 /LVM2 & LVM cleanup process
location: linuxquestions.com - date: January 3, 2010
I am in a situation where i am stuck with a LVM cleanup process. Although i know a lot about AIX LVM , but this is first time i am working with Linux LVM2.
Problem is that i created two RAID arrays on storage , which appeared as mpath0 & mpath1 devices ( multipath) on RHEL. I created logical volumes and volume groups and every thing was fine till i decided to clean the storage arrays and ran following script
cat /scripts/numbers | while read numbers
lvremove -f /dev/vg$numbers/lv_vg$numbers
vgremove -f vg$numbers
pvremove -f /dev/mapper/mpath$numbers\p1
Please note that numbers was a file in same directory, having numbers 1 and 2 in separate line.
Scripts worked well and i was able to delete definations properly ( however i now think i missed one parted command to remove the partition defination from mpath device.
When i created three new arrays , i got devices from mpath2 to mpath5 on linux and then i created vg0 to vg2.
By mistake ,
