openGL version 2 for linux
location: linuxquestions.com - date: August 20, 2007
Hi, I was just wondering, is there any openGL version 2 and later for linux other than Mesa?
I think I have the SGI sample implementation, which works, but I think it is version 1.something. What I have came with the newest version of XFree86.
I am thinking of using a lxde or xfce version of linux i am maybe at best a medium level user

I am thinking of taking my laptop and installing a version of either lxde, xfce, or kde based on such flavor of ubuntu, linux mint, id love to learn arch but only if it is not a huge learning curve because i always like to be up to date with my software. that is one of the few things i really enjoy about windows. and currently i am running windows 7 but sadly i only have a 64 bit version which we all know requires 4 gigs of ram and that is all i have on this set up. Therefore i cannot run windows 7 in a virtual environment on linux but i can run win 32 bit xp. there is one program i like to use for my comics called comic rack that i cannot get to run in linux either with wine or mono. but then again i do not know how to tinker with mono or any languages for that matter. otherwise honestly most of the programs i run on windows have equivalents or are the same on linux and i really want to migrate but i must be able to run comic rack in my opinion.
how do I know which version of Linux is installed on computer?

Hi,
Sorry if this has been asked before, I haven't found anything about it here yet.
OK, this is my absolute beginner question:
I have access to multiple computers, all under Linux - not installed by me, but different variants (xUbuntu and others) and versions.
Where (in which folder) is hidden the valuable information about what variant and version of Linux is installed on any given computer?
Once I know which variant/version I'm dealing with, I will be able to ask more specific questions on this forum.
Thank you!

How do I tell what version of Linux is running?

I looked /usr/lib/dv and found no entries. Not sure where else to look for this info.
How do I determine what version of Linux is running?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: January 3, 2004
I have been handed-down an old computer that has 2 CPU's (133Mhz Pentium 1, I think) and two 1 Gigabyte SCSI hard disks. It has RedHat Linux running on it and it works well -- it networks (I can get to it over the network and Internet). It even has Apache running on it.
However, this is an old version of RedHat (uname -r returns 2.0.29). My problem is I need to install WebSphereMQ Version 5.3 and that requires a Linux kernel 2.4 with glibc version 2.2 or later using Linux threads. Therefore, I am sure I need to update the OS to get that.
The questions I have are:
1. How can I tell what version of RedHat is already running on this machine.
2. Is there a version of RedHat that uses the 2.4 kernel and glibc 2.2 or later and Linux threads that will fit and run on this machine?
3. What is the best way to approach the upgrade if there is a version I can use, upgrade or full install?
Any information or tips you might offer are appreciated!

Is there a version of Linux OS that will fit on a 750 MB CD-R disc. I downloaded a version of linux already, but it is 1.34 Gb and is to big to fit on the CD-R discs that I have. My Windows Vista OS is corrupt and now malfunctions while not in safe mode.
please wait...
