Postfix / cron / monit problem on CentOS
location: linuxquestions.com - date: March 18, 2011
I've run into a strange problem on one of the servers I maintain. It's running CentOS 5, fully up to date. The server has Monit installed via RPMforge, and runs Postfix as its MTA. Every day at about 4:20am, when cron is running, Monit loses its connection to Postfix. As far as I can tell, nothing is actually going wrong with Postfix and it's always restarted just fine. I run a couple of Debian servers with very similar setups, and the problem does not occur on them.
Perhaps related, other daemons on the CentOS box often lose their pid files at the time when cron runs, which results in Monit thinking they're not running. One service in particular (zarafa-dagent) is so bad for this that I've had to completely disable monitoring of it in Monit. Again, this problem doesn't occur on the Debian boxes I maintain.
The problem isn't hugely urgent as everything still runs fine, but it does mean that pretty much every day I get false positive mail alerts from Monit, which is (a)

Postfix issue ; Must issue a STARTTLS command first after forcing TLS
location: linuxquestions.com - date: May 11, 2009
I set up Postfix+smapassassian+Amavis-new mail server and I have one small issue, for which I cannot find how to solve it.
When I set up in main.cf
smtpd_tls_security_level = encrypt
to force tls and not accept connections which are not cripted, ( in evolution set as well to use TLS ) I am not able to send mails.
All mails fails with error
host 127.0.0.1[127.0.0.1] said: 530 5.7.0 Failed,
id=28847-11, from MTA([127.0.0.1]:10025): 530 5.7.0 Must issue a STARTTLS
command first (in reply to end of DATA command)
I understand what is problem here, amavist-new does not support TLS and all clear. I found that in case amavist and postfix are on same machine it is not necessary to use TLS within loopback ( within machine ), and as solution is recommended to set up in master.cf as :
127.0.0.1:10025 inet n - - - - smtpd
Postfix with Centos 5.7 Gmail relay Must issue a STARTTLS command first
location: linuxquestions.com - date: November 25, 2011
Hello I am trying to use my gmail address as a relay for Postfix, but I peristently get this error:
Postfix GMAIL relay not working
location: linuxquestions.com - date: June 30, 2012
I'm trying to set up postfix relay access via SMTP using gmail using the many tutorials on the net. It looks as though I am missing a prerequites. I've reinstalled postfix a couple of times with the same issue.
Below are the logs.
1. The line that says relay=none indicates that the relaying to gmail isn't happening. Even though it says bounced, i doubt it is even getting there.
2. I tried telnet-ing into [smtp.gmail.com] on port 587 and it works, so not network issues.

Debian postfix+courier MySql smtp authentication
location: linuxquestions.com - date: July 16, 2012
I have a trouble with postfix+sasl+pam_mysql configuration. I have dedicated server with debian, apache2, posfix and courier.
IMAP(courier) authentication works perfectly, but SMTP(postfix) does strange things. I can log in with any username(e-mail or not), but only empty password. When password and username are correct I have in log "SASL LOGIN authentication failed: authentication failure". If password is empty everything is OK(postfix sends e-mail).
I've tried making this work for a week or so and I have no idea what can be wrong. I've tried postfix with chroot(default) and not. I'm using postfix->saslauthd->pam->mysql.
I've done pretty much everything like in here: http://www.howtoforge.com/virtual-us...debian-squeeze
I hope this is enough information about my problem,
Thanks for your help,
PS. Sorry if my English isn't so good but i'm from Poland and I'm 15 years old.
Problem with Debian Webmin dovecot mail retrieval (postfix also installed)
location: linuxquestions.com - date: August 10, 2012
I have made a pretty basic setup on my server through webmin for the dovecot/postfix modules but it seems that dovecot doesn't work at all. I can not login to my box, while I enter correct login credentials.
I use outlook express for this.
The error code I get is 0x800CCC92 .
I could provide more information upon request.
Please give me some basic advice.
