Problems with Wine and iTunes.
location: linuxquestions.com - date: December 19, 2010
I just installed Ubuntu 11.04, and installed Wine, so that I could use iTunes. iTunes worked relatively well, but wouldn't recognize my iPhone. I thought it would be a good idea to uninstall it and reinstall it. Well, it won't let me uninstall it. It pops up with a program error, saying "The program msiexec.exe has encountered a serious problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." Then the add/remove programs in Wine freezes and won't respond, though it will let me move the window around. I would like to get iTunes off of my computer and then start fresh with something that will work properly. I am not familiar with Linux at all, so anything would be appreciated.
Acer Aspire 7741z5731 problems with Kubuntu/Ubuntu/and Mint KDE
location: linuxquestions.com - date: March 8, 2011
Hello to all........
I recently acquired an Acer Aspire 7741Z-5731. I've tried to install Kubuntu and Ubuntu 10.10 - both give me problems with video and sound. I have researched this without finding a definitive answer that works. On the video issue - both Kubuntu and Ubuntu boot and work fine on the the USB Drive. When installed however - both just boot to a black screen prompt. Neither address the soundcard that came with the Acer - both show "dummy output" under the gui interface for changing sound settings.
On Linux Mint KDE - installs fine - just not able to get sound - same as above - only "dummy output" is available in the gui.
I've tried reading the Ubuntu and Kubuntu posts at their forums. The problem is that when I start messing around in terminal - I don't get the same results that the posts indicate. I do know that ALSA is not installed by default in any one of the three distros I'm working with. I tried installing it from the terminal per the
Dual boot problems with Mandriva/Mageia
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: May 7, 2011
While Kubuntu 11.04 is now my main distribution, I have also been testing the beta versions of Mageia. In attempting to have this as a subsidiary distribution in a multi-boot situation, I have run into a problem that I had previously experienced while attempting to use Mandriva in a similar way - the boot process terminates in a kernel panic because Grub2 doesn't properly identify the default boot location in Mageia/Mandriva.
The problem doesn't seem to arise (for me, anyway) with other distributions still using Grub1, such as openSUSE and Fedora, and has apparently already been raised upstream. See:
This bug was marked as resolved in version 1.98 of Grub2 back in August 2010. Nevertheless, the issue still exists in version 1.99~rc1-13ubuntu, as used in Ubuntu and Kubuntu 11.04.
Is this a regression? Has anyone else experienced the same problem? Can anyone confirm that I should lodge a bug here, given the version numb
Ubuntu 10.10 Netbook Remix problems with Asus EEEPC 1005P
location: linuxquestions.com - date: October 16, 2010
I've just installed 10.10 Netbook remix on my netbook and I am experiencing problems with the applications requiring repeated clicks to launch.
Has anyone come across any fixes to this issue?
I have reverted to logging into a Desktop session in the meantime but do like the netbook optimised screen layout.
Problems with .bashprofile
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: July 11, 2011
Am in the process of learning the terminal, and the basics of scripting, however have come up against a problem.
Performing some alias tweaks to save me some time for common tasks in the terminal requires me to edit .bash_profile, which is under /home/.myusername. However, if I open it in gedit, e.g. sudo gedit .bash_profile it opens a blank gedit document. It can't seriously be telling me there is nothing in there?
Any help, especially from terminal gurus, is much appreciated
