DNS server problem SERVFAIL
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: May 19, 2010
Hello guys, i have set a DNS server using bind9 on a ubuntu 10.4 desktop (clean install)
i have followed some tutorials and tried different approaches regarding the configuration that i should do to bind, but without any luck.
First things first:
External IP Adress: 220.127.116.11
Ubuntu server ip adress: 192.168.1.253
DNS name: adandu.ro
when interogating the server from the local machine with nslookup this is what it shows:
> server 192.168.1.253
Default server: 192.168.1.253
** server can't find adandu.ro.adandu.ro: SERVFAIL
// This is the primary configuration file for the BIND DNS server named.
// Please read /usr/share/doc/bind9/README.Debian.gz for information on the

I have Ubuntu server 12.4 and run bind9. I have made a master zone file like described in Ubuntu Server Guide and registered ns server by my SPI. When I look at DNS lookup direct from my server, record is found. But all other servers don,t have it. Looks like the DNS record is not distributed forward. But I don,t know why. Any ideas?
I have increment serial number.
dns server configuration and samba problem
location: linuxquestions.com - date: May 16, 2010
I have a problem with configuration of dns server and samba using centos.
So, i have to do dns server, in domain - redes.dis.ulpgc.es and its IP is 172.16.1.1.
I have 3 subnets/clients : red2.dis.ulpgc.es (172.16.1.2), red3.dis.ulpgc.es (172.16.1.3),red4.dis.ulpgc.es (172.16.1.4).
My higher server is www.redes.dis.ulpgc.es . If someone inputs any other address than one of those(red2,red3,red4), i am asking this dns server -> www.redes.dis.ulpgc.es
Now the samba part:
I have to create a folder shared for a group "alumnos" with the privilidges of writing and reading BUT only the owner/creator can modify or delete it.
Thanks in advance.
Problem when ping /nslookup to DNS server from remote machine !
location: linuxquestions.com - date: March 24, 2013
I met a problem when setup DNS server for Oracle RAC two nodes.
I have two machines, I called them is Server_A (node1) and Server_B (node2). OS is RHEL 5.8.
Based on the link :
On the Server_A, I created 2 virtual machine - VM (used Oracle VirtualBox): 1 for DNS Server, 1 for Node1. I were setup DNS server and it worked fine. From Node1 VM, I can ping and nslookup to rac-scan on DNS Server.
On the Server_B, I also created 1 virtual machine for Node2. But from Node2, I can't ping to DNS server and use nslookup to rac-scan ! Also, I can't ping to Node1.
But when I copied Node2 VM from Server_B to Server_A (I mean the DNS server VM, Node1 VM and Node2 VM will run on Server_A). And now, from Node2 I can ping to dns server, node1 and use nslookup to rac-scan OK !
I did not knew why ! All of my VMs OS, I used

DNS resolver problem in Ubunutu 12.04 server
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: August 16, 2012
My first Precise Pangolin deployment.
I'm having issues with dns resolution not working - turns out /etc/resolv.conf is not anymore the place to manage this.
I tried to add “dns-nameservers”, “dns-search” and “dns-domain” entries in /etc/network/interfaces but they don't seem to work either (no server could be reached error, although I can ping those listed with dns-nameservers).
My interfaces files reads
iface eth0 inet static
dns-nameservers 172.16.200.25 172.16.100.5
If I do a host xxx.domain.com 172.16.200.25 it resolves fine - it's just that there is a config problem with default resolvers. Issuing a "dig" times out with "no server could be reached".
I tried to manually edit /etc/resolvconf/resolv.conf.d/head but it doesn't help.
What am I missing ?
Newbie DNS server & /etc/resolv.conf problem (CentOS 5.x)
location: linuxquestions.com - date: March 24, 2008
I am a newbie and would like to clarify the following; but first a quick summary of my simple DNS configuration:
My setup is simple - just a QA lab environment, my initial setup are just 3 hosts:
qatest2 - 192.168.17.2 (DNS server Bind9 on CentOS 5.1)
qatest1 - 192.168.17.1 (DHCP server)
qatest3 - 192.168.17.3
domain name: lab.mycompany.com
1. I used the Bind Tool to create the default files; and automatically
"import" the /etc/hosts file of qatest2 - which contains the IP, FQDN and
hostname of a all 3 hosts.
2. Added via GUI a "forwarder" option with the IP address of the DNS server of our corporate network which is.
... So that is the simple setup.
At this point, I believe that I have setup a DNS "standard DNS server" (not a Caching Server) (pls correct me if my assumption is wrong.
My question now:
1. I would need to also configure my DNS server (qatest2) so that its /etc/resolv.conf file will contain its o
Problem during DNS server setup on local network.

I have a small local network , with few desktops and one server . The server machine has UBUNTU 12.04 server 64 bit installed on it. Some of the desktops are windows , one is Mac and others are ubuntu . What I am trying to accomplish is to create a local DNS server for my network and DNS server would be present on the server machine. My internet connection is DSL Broadband connection , though it generates IP's with DHCP , I have given static IP to all the machines present in my network.
I followed this link http://lani78.wordpress.com/2012/07/...ngolin-server/ for setting up the DNS server. I am attaching the concerned files which I modified or created ( I have added extra .txt at the end of them for attachment issues ). After following up all the instructions to best of my knowledge , at the end when I type following command
>> host -l trintranet.com
I get the following output
; Transfer failed.
Host trintranet.com.trintranet.com not found: 9(NOTAUTH)
