Issues with sharing partitions using NFS
location: linuxquestions.com - date: January 24, 2014
We have 3 servers : Server1, Server2 and Server3, all in the same network.
On Server2 I'm sharing a partition, say /part1, to Server 3 using NFS.
Here's the /etc/exports on Server2:
Issues with copying files (Too many open files error along with high CPU and memory)
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: February 18, 2013
Hi. I'm trying to copy a fair amount of files from one drive to another (NTFS to NTFS) and during copying I always encounter:
— High CPU usage
— Memory usage going way out of hand
— (when copying over USB, also often also slower transfer speeds than I was accustomed to in Windows)
In addition to that, my laptop tends to freeze fairly often due to 'Too many open files' error. (Plasma-desktop crashes, programs stop responding and TTY sessions stop accepting commands).
What I was/am doing:
Copying ~60k files (~70 GB) to samba drive.
Copying ~120k files (~265 GB) to external HDD.
Networking issues with r8169 Gigabit Ethernet on 11.04
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: May 25, 2011
I have an issue with my r8169 Gigabit Ethernet card. On windows the card works perfectly but on Ubuntu 11.04 I have issues that it constantly seems to loose connection and then has to go back again. When browsing this is very apparent as very often all sites fail to load and then I have to wait half a minute again before I can resume browsing. Then it works for about a few minutes and stops again.
This is pretty annoying as you can imagine. I googled a bit for related problems and I found some information about dual booting with windows but that does seem to be another problem as in those cases linux failed to have any networking at all. In my case I have networking but it stops and starts all the time.
Looking in dmesg and syslog I very often see these kinds of messages appear:
[ 5.844707] r8169 0000:03:00.0: eth0: link down
[ 5.845136] ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): eth0: link is not ready
[ 7.462225] r8169 0000:03:00.0: eth0: link up
Apparent issues with UTF8 support, cannot display nonlatin characters
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: October 10, 2010
I've been looking everywhere for a solution and have had no luck. I'm running Ubuntu server ( Linux yn 2.6.32-25-generic-pae #44-Ubuntu SMP Fri Sep 17 21:57:48 UTC 2010 i686 GNU/Linux ) with apache2 and I can't seem to get my website to display Korean characters. I'm trying to help a friend who's modifying a Korean website. I used wget to download the files and they just show up on my screen as questions marks and weird characters, but not Korean symbols.
I've only copied over a couple of the files so far but even if you take a look at the title or when you view the source if you look at the meta description or keywords you can clearly see the difference between these two websites (assuming your setup can display Korean characters, the first page displays correctly but not the second):
I found an example UTF-8 text file online that displays fine in Chrome on my Windows 7 machine ( http://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/~mgk25
SD memory card format issue with mkfs.vfat
location: linuxquestions.com - date: January 25, 2011
I am trying to format 4 GB sd memory using mkfs.vfat.
I want to use the card both in linux and windows so I am formatting with Vfat filesystem.
When I format the card from command line with "mkfs.vfat -F 32 /dev/mmcblk1" I am getting a warning message like
"unable to get drive geometry, using default 255/63" but the data in the card is erased.
But when I mount the card and checks for the size using df -h its showing 1 GB instead of 4 GB.
Please help me how to format the SD memory card or any other alternate way to format the card.
Thanks in advance.

Issues with freetype in Xorg in Arch
location: linuxquestions.com - date: June 16, 2009
I'm having issues with startx. It works with root but when I log onto a normal user I try startx and it says it fails to load freetype because the module doesn't exist. I've edited /etc/rc.conf but when i reboot it says that the module doesn't exist (even after I downloaded /extra/freetype2 from pacman).
Any other suggestions? I used nvidia to configure xorg.conf and it seems to load fine in root, just not under a normal user.
Any Legal Issues with use of Ubuntu Linux?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: February 25, 2006
I have a question about legal & licensing issues with bundling Ubuntu Linux with our own hardware and software for comercial purpose. What we want to do is to install Ubuntu on each of our customerly-built boxes together with our own application software for sale. We are basically not selling Ubuntu Linux even though it will be used as the operating system.
I'm wondering if there are any legal restrictions involved in doing this. I would appreciate very much any suggestions and comments.
SMB Share Issues with Windows Vista & 7
location: linuxquestions.com - date: February 17, 2009
So I've already edited the registry entry necessary to see linux samba shares. However, I'm still running into an issue with even the most basic shares. I am running Fedora Core 10 and building a NAS out of it. Everything's kosher so far but I can't get the Samba shares up and running. I'll worry about writeable user share later but right now I have the following smb.conf file:
Issues With Boot Repair: Not detecting biosgrub partition
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: April 22, 2013
So, I'm dual booting linux for the first time on my computer. I run Windows 8 native on an unpartitioned 500gb internal HD. I want to install Linux Mint 13 Cinnamon 64bit to a partition on my 3TB External HD. I have made a live USB thumbdrive and gone through install, then rebooted into linux via the thumbdrive in order to enable Grub per these instructions. I ran Boot Repair but got an error code. I made a new unformatted 6mb partition and flagged it as bios_grub as per the error code when I attempted to run boot repair, but boot repair kept giving me the same error. I did step 10 and running as per the instructions and
sudo parted /dev/sda print
