I ran F-Prot and this is what I got. All of it is in Windows XP except for one. Could I get peoples thoughts on this? Not sure what to do. Also is there anyway to get F-Prot to delete the infected files when it is scanning? And if I run F-Prot in run level 3 or 1 will it scan the files that it couldn't with this one?
Here are the results....

I installed the deb package avast4workstation_1.3.0-2_i386.deb using the dpkg and I'm not happy with the program. I want to UN-install this and I've tried to use dpkg -r avast4workstation_1.3.0-2_i386.deb but the command line returns an error message saying it needs the program name and not the package it came in. I've looked in /usr/bin and cannot find anything. When I do a whereis avast it tells me it is located in that path but i cannot find it and even when doing an ls- a. Can somebody help me. Having the program installed doesn't really hinder my use of the operating system, I just don't like wasting the space and having software installed that I do not intend to use. Not only that, I would love to know the process and commands for UN-installing deb packages once they are installed. I'm using Ubuntu 11.10 and a bash shell. thanks for the help!

FSCK scan error during startup 'routine system scan' please help!
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: July 6, 2008
Summary
Error during routine system scan.
When did it happen?
During the system startup procedure at the 'Ubuntu' orange and black splashscreen.
What happened?
A small message at the bottom read
"Routine scan of /dev/shm/root - x% complete."
Then after a minute or two, I received the following page of white text on a black screen. I took a photo of it and have copied it out verbatim.
/dev/shm/root: UNEXPECTED INCONSISTENCY: Run fsck MANUALLY.
- (i.e. without -a or -p options)
fsck died with exit status 4
checking drive /dev/shm/root: 93% (stage 4/5, 50/105)
An automatic file system check (fsck) of the root filesystem failed.
A manual fsck must be performed, then the system restarted.
The fsck should be performed in maintenance mode with the root filesystem mounted in read-only mode.
The root filesystem is currently mounted in read-only mode.
A maintenance shell will now be started.
After performing system maintenance, press CONTROL-D

Some Questions, Please Look.

Hey guys,
I just have a few questions to ask, if you don't mind.
1. VNC
So far, I have gotten vnc to work great, the java server thingie works and everything! There is just one thing thats not working; some apps, like xchat and xmms's fonts show up as little 'blocks'. I think this may have something to do with font paths, although I have added my entire default font path in the vncserver script.(You can obtain that path by typing 'xset -q' in a terminal in your normal X session)
2. GPM & X
Well, first of all, GPM works great when X is not running, and the mouse in X works great regardless of weather GPM is running or not. When I start X, and then go out again, GPM is stuck to the top line of the terminal, and behaves erratically when I touch the mouse. I use the imps2 driver for both. Any idea on how to make X and GPM behave like good neighbors? (Just by the way, I had this working before, before I upgraded to Slackware 8.1. But I forgot how I fixed it.

problems using knoppix 5.3 Live DVD to virus scan XP window PC (using fprot)
location: linuxquestions.com - date: November 6, 2008
My PC decided not to boot. As I did not back up any of my files, instead of formatting my PC Ive decided to try and use Knoppix 5.3 Live DVD and f-prot. As I have read that it is possible to scan and dis -infect window virus.
I managed to boot knoppix up and also install f-prot. However I am having trouble scanning my window partitions as I can not find the directory. I have done a search on the internet and its worrying to read that Knoppix should automatically detect window partitions and have an icon on the desktop to represent the drive(have i lost everything?).
So I was wondering if any one is able to advice me on what to do next =(
N/B: I tried to find my window partition using Rootshell and typing in the following command: cat /etc/fstab
where i received the following:
/proc /proc proc rw,nosuid,nodev,noexec 0 0
/sys /sys sysfs rw,nosuid,nodev,noexec 0 0
/dev/shm /dev/shm tmpfs rw,nosuid,nodev,noexec 0 0
/dev/pts /dev/pts devpts
virus scan windows with ubuntu
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: February 7, 2011
my main goal here is to virus scan windows with either my linux or a live usb. i have tryed this 2 ways and have failed.
attempt one:
using my ubuntu 10.04 (wubi) on my netbook. i have installed clamtk. i make sure the preferences are set to scan all files and directories within directory. then when trying to locate my main OS for a recursive scan, i can only find my linux file system. (this is part of my problem) since i cant figure how to scan my windows i go to scan my linux file system. i first scan my home folder. that works fine but when i try to scan the whole file system. clamtk just turns grey and i either have to force quit or i wait forever and cancels the scan.
attempt two:
i made a live usb with ubuntu 10.04 (and with 10.10). then loaded up the usb stick. downloaded and installed clamtk. now i can find my main OS windows and see my linux file system. when i run the scan now on the OS, clamtk once again says please wait, then turns grey. i have to force quit.
so if you

Run a virus scan on windows files from within Linux.
location: linuxquestions.com - date: October 5, 2009
What software would you recommend for this?
My particular need for this is that I am going to run a samba server on a small network and I want to routinely scan the files being shared for viruses.
I am running Arch Linux and the Anti-Virus available by Pacman was "ClamAV for Unix-like systems" which I'm assuming would not search for windows viruses.
Thanks for any suggestions
please wait...
