I am a new commer to linux... I have just a few week of experience with Linux under Ubuntu 13, but had to change last minute to RHEL because got frustrated with compatibility issues with CUDA and NVidia Driver and Mathematica installations .
But I am frustrated because I can not get anything isntalled in the graphical interface. I followed the Install ./ command and installation proceeded as successfull. But I dont get anything in the graphical interface.
The same thing happened when installing Dropbox in RHEL.
I have gone online... But I can not find a straight total begginers guide for RHEL. Please, need a direction. Anyone here have an idea what is I am going wrong?

MACBOOK Pro with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 ndiswrapper wont install
location: linuxquestions.com - date: May 9, 2010
I have a MacBook Pro with RHEL 5 installed.
The MacBook has a wifi card but I can not get it to work.
I have ndiswrapper but when I go to install it, it fails.
It states "Cannot find kernel version in /usr/src/kernels/2.6.18-194.el5-i686
I tried doing make KSRC=/lib/modules/2.6.18-194.el5/kernel and that fails
So, how the heck do I get this working?
I have read at least 10 articles that discuss similar issues but haven't found any that offer a work-around.
Is there something better than ndiswrapper? Something that actually works?
I am new to Linux and so far all I have done is research on installing and getting wifi to work. That's been 3 complete days that I have spent and I can't even connect yet.
Please give me some help.

How to install Maven into Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6?
location: linuxexchange.com - date: June 17, 2013
I'm working on a Scientific Linux box and am trying to install Maven using the yum command. Scientific Linux for those of you who do not know is based off of Red Hat Linux Enterprise Edition 6.
I'd prefer to install Maven in a way that lent itself to easy updating, that is why I have shied away from simply going to the Apache Maven site and getting the files I need.
Simply running yum with root privileges was not enough. I used yum search maven which returned "JPackage Utilities", which I tried to install only to get:
Package jpackage-utils-1.7.5-3.12.el6.noarch already installed and latest version
I was assuming that something like creating a new repo file something like /etc/yum.repos.d/maven.repo would do the trick.
I found a site suggesting that I point my maven.repo file to the URL http://www.jpackage.org/jpackage50.repo, however this seems to be a fix for an older version of Linux as it did not solve my problem
As always thanks in advance for any help or suggestions!
