Red Hat Linux installation Problem
location: linuxquestions.com - date: January 13, 2007
I am trying to install Red Hat Linux Version 9 in a dual boot mode on my laptop i.e. Compaq Evo N600C. I already have windows 2000 professional on my laptop and do not want destroy that. Fortunately I had made two partitions when I got this laptop. I have formatted D: Drive and made Fat32 system to install Linux. On C: drive is where windows 2000 sits.
I have the installation CDs with me and I tried with following steps but I have not been able to see the boot prompt.
1/ Went to BIOS settings, checked the boot order, it was fine. i.e. multibay and then hard drive
2/ Inserted the first CD and then booted. But failed to see the linux boot prompt. It boots into windows operating system.
3/ Later I made a separate boot CD ROM according what is specified in the Red Hat 9 installation guide and then tried again. But no luck, I still don't see the linux boot: prompt to proceed with Linux installation.
I have tried the boot CD on two more systems (which I am lucky to use), I am not

i have a problem installing my red hat linux 9 from both hard drive and CD.
when it ask me to select the partition and the directory holding images it gives me the following error:
"Device /dev/hdd1 does not appear to contain Red Hat CDROM images"
when trying to install directly from CD-ROM drive it gives me:
"The Red Hat Linux CD was not found in any of your CDROM drives. Please insert the Red Hat Linux CD and press ok to retry."
By the way the first CD doesn't boot after i changed my BIOS setting to boot from CD-ROM drive so i press F8 and choose "command prompt" and use this file to start the installation /dosutils/autoboot.bat
also i made a boot diskette ( from bootdisk.img using rawrite utility ) to start the installation it gives me the first error "Device /dev/hdd1 does not appear to contain...etc" when it reach this step.
i copied the first cd to my hard drive C:\ partition under folde

Installation Oracle 9i Developer Suite on Red Hat Linux 7.3
location: linuxquestions.com - date: September 16, 2003
I have installed oracle database 9i on my red hat 7.3 server. During
installation i got one error "error in target installation of make file $ORACLE_HOME/lib/ctx/ins_ctx.mk" . I searched the net for this error
and found that in the $ORACLE_HOME/lib/ctx/env_ctx.mk" i have to
add $(LDLIBFLAG)dl to the INSO_LINK line. I did that and my installation went on sucessfully. $ORACLE_HOME=/oracle/OraHome
Now i want to install oracle 9i Developer Suite. When i tried to install it , firstly it asked me to enter oracle home so i entered /oracle/Orahome , it gives me error "can not install on existing oracle"
so then i gave "/oracle/developer" as my ORACLE_HOME. Installation went on sucessfully untill while linking at 64% i got error
"error in target installation of make file ins_plsql.mk". again i serached the net and found that in the $ORACLE_HOME/bin/genclntsh file
the variable LD_SELF_CONTAINED="-z defs" has to chang

Linux Red Hat 9 installation error: "linux CD was not found"
location: linuxquestions.com - date: April 1, 2004
I am a newbie in Linux. And I tried to install Linux Red Hat 9 in a brand new computer. However, after I booted the PC with the DISK 1 of Red Hat 9, I got the following message:
"The Red Hat linux CD was not found in any of your CDROM drivers and press OK to retry."
But I did put the CD in it. And I tested the CDROM and it is working okay.
These CDs was burned from my friends and he can install in his PC.
So, does anyone have any idea on this problem ?
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks in advance!!!
Red Hat Linux 7.2 Xserver does not start after installation
- date: January 18, 2009
I had been using Redhat 7.2 (2.4.7-10) on a desktop PC with an i810 chipset till recently and never encountered any problem with the X-server.
A few days back, I shifted to an i845 chipset. The X-server worked well at installation time, but does not start when I boot off the hard-disk. I configured my X-server to use the i810 driver at installation time.
Can someone tell me what do I have to do to get the X-server started ? Please note I am most unwilling to move to some other distribution of Linux. Redhat 7.2 is the only one I like.
Interestingly, using the i810 driver works very well with FreeBSD 6.2 on the same i845 chipset.
Thanks for any help.
