Max group length in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.1
location: linuxquestions.com - date: August 12, 2008
Is there any max group length, i.e. groups defined in /etc/group, in RHEL 5.1? A colleague of mine recalls a limitation of 12 characters in the old day, but we're not sure if this is still the case.

Red Hat or Linux Certificate?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: April 11, 2011
I'd like to get started with a Linux certification program, but I found that Red Hat has their own courses too. I am wondering if there is out there anyone in the forum who has either one of the certifications and give me some hints on the difference between them and on the demand or needs that todays IT industry has of them.

Need to create an admin user on Red Hat Enterprise Linux
location: linuxquestions.com - date: September 4, 2008
I am pretty new to RHEL and it has been a while since having to perform any sort of administration. Against my better judgement, I have been using the root account for most functions. I would like to create an admin account for these administrative functions. I understand the concept of RHEL's file permission (rwx) system. My background though is more in Windows where we would create a user account and add it to a group that has admin-level rights. It doesn't seem to work that way in Linux. It looks like you have to grant access via file permissions to what you would like the account to do. I would have to imagine there is an easier way of accomplishing this? If anyone could give me some insight into all this and how to create a user with admin-level rights I would greatly appreciate it.
head adds chars to end of each line (Red Hat Enterprise Linux)
location: linuxquestions.com - date: April 5, 2010
I wrote a bash-script that splits each of many .sql-files into two parts by some condition using head utlity.
After that I execute all the scripts in sqlplus, and in one or two of them I get an error:
SP2-0042: unknown command ")" - rest of line ignored.
If I open the file with vi, I can see that in the end of each line there's a "^M", which is treated as a single character. If I delete this character placed before the closing parenthesis, the scripts executes without any errors.
In the initial script opened by vi there's no such characters.
Is it a problem with the head utility or with something else? What could I do with such a problem?
Of course, I cannot grep these special chars.
