user authentication problem issue in Red Hat Enterprise Linux WS release 3
location: linuxquestions.com - date: November 18, 2011
I am using my SIP Server on the base of Red Hat Enterprise Linux WS release 3 (Taroon update 9).
From the day of binning I face a major problem - admin or user authentication problem of this server.
After 2/3 days of live operation I cannot access the server VIA GUI mode or SSH/telnet mode, where as I can ping the SIP server or browse the IP of that server in GUI mode.
I received following error at that time if I am try to access the system:
I received this error in GUI mode that time: Login failed - Incorrect user name/password.
and in ssh or telnet access mode via puty: Network error: Software caused connection abort.
I need to restart the system manually to access the server via GUI mode or SSH/Telnet mode.
Please help me to solve the issue.

Problems installing Red Hat Enterprise Linux under VM (IBM)
location: linuxquestions.com - date: May 20, 2008
Hi All (First post)
I'm Trying to install Red Hat Enterprise Linux (v. 5 64-bit IBM System z)
using VM 5.3 and reading the CD ISO's on a Linux NFS server.
4 Hours in to the install I get the following
The file evince-0.6.0.8.e15.s390x.rpm cannot be opened.
this is due to a file is missing, a corrupt package etc.
on the VM console I get
attempt to access beyond end of device
loop3: rw=0, want=1801624, limit=970880
printk: 30 messages suppressed.
Buffer I/O error on device loop3, logical block 450405
I think it is looking on CD3 for the data, if I mount CD3.iso evince software is not on it, it is on CD2.iso
Has any one successfully installed this level of Linux on a Mainframe.
I have been through the FAQ's on the RED HAT site but nothing and unless I pay them for support the will not accept any questions
can any one help

Upgrade of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 to RHEL 6
location: linux.com - date: March 14, 2014
Our servers are upto date with RHEL 5.10, 2.6.18-371 kernel.
What will happen at server with next yum update?
Will it upgrade to RHEL 6, or only kernel and other packages will be upgraded to next version?
What should be the recommended way forward with RHEL 5.10 with 2.6.18-371 kernel servers?
We are using Satellite server to freeze channels every quarter and using that channel to update / patch the servers using yum update command.
Thanks in advance.
