debian and red hat equivalent command
location: linuxquestions.com - date: August 18, 2003
Hi Debian user,
I am red hat user. Now I have installed debian 3 with kde.
Appreciate if you can help me with the following.
1) in red hat 8, when I type 'setup' it would prompt me the configuration screen which I can select the item which I want to reconfigure. In debian, it doesn't reconize the 'setup' command. Is there any equivalent command in debian to redhat. what is the command which I can bring up the setup screen like red hat 8.
2) After I have installed software and packages like game, chat. in gui. how can I reinstall it ?
3) I need to bring up the 'authentication screen' so that I can change to md5. how can I bring that up ?
4) Is there a website or documentation which I can refer to the equivalent between red hat and debian ?

I am new to Linux. I wanted to install a software, and it gave me a message that it needs a certain dependency. I was able to download the dependency on a LInux that had Gui interface, and make it work.
My question is. HOw can i Download a dependency via Command Line? Do i need to connect to a website via command line, and download it?
some advise on this would help.
Thanks in advance,
Command line update utility ro Red Hat?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: January 17, 2003
Is there any type of utility that I can run from the command line that will go out and get any patches/security that the system needs and automatically install them? Similar to windows update? I know on my RH8.0 laptop there is the little check box in the corner that does pretty much this but can I access this feature on a server without a GUI enviroment? This would be for a RH7.3 machine.

Im sorta new to Linux and I've had a look at both Mandrake and Red Hat.
I'm currently running Red Hat and have a few questions...
How do I mount a parallel ZIP? With Mandrake it auto detected so I didn't have to worry about it.
And also how do I unstall programs if they weren't RPMs or TARS but bins?
