Redhat Linux doesnot start in Graphic mode after booting
location: linuxquestions.com - date: April 11, 2004
This is for the first time that I have been installing RedHat Linux 9. During the installation i was asked to configure the Xserver by choosing the Video Card from the available list. As i could not find SiS 6215C in the list, I skipped the step. After completing the installation, i tried to configure the xserver using redhat-config-xfree86 command and selecting a generic video card. After completing this configuration, my pc still continues to boot in text mode. I am able to then start xserver using startx command from the prompt and everything works fine then on. Can you suggest a method of making xserver as a default graphic terminal after booting.
Thanks for reading my query...

Oracle 9i Start Up Script w/ Redhat 9
location: linuxquestions.com - date: September 17, 2003
I'm running redhat 9 and installed Oracle 9i release 2. I need a start up script so the database and listeners start up everytime I boot up. I've tried a few but get errors each time. Does anyone know of a good start up script for redhat 9 and Oracle 9i R2?
Here is what I've tried:
# starts and stops oracle 9i database, listener & http server
# fix kernel parameters for oracle
case $1 in
# fix kernel parameters
echo 250 32000 100 128 > /proc/sys/kernel/sem
echo 536870912 > /proc/sys/kernel/shmmax
echo 4096 > /proc/sys/kernel/shmmni
(dual system)can not start redhat after installed Ubuntu 9.04

I searched from website, somebody said:
"GRUB couldn't possibly keep all its settings in the tiny amount of space a boot sector gives, it's actually smart enough to understand some partition types, to let it reach in and grab a config file. Usually /boot/grub/grub.conf, whichever partition that ended up at in your file tree. It'll be reading the new grub.conf instead of the old one now, but if you can get your old one, you can add settings from it to your new one"
but the problem is: I did not keep the old menu.lst of the redhat! how can I find it if I can not log in now? Is there any way I can check the menu.lst of redhat from ubuntu?

While installing my application through a shell script, I am trying to create a menu for it with some items in it for execution, in the linux start menu in RedHat 8.0 KDE and GNOME. (a menu item similar to Accessories, Graphics, Internet etc)
I have prepared the .desktop files, but i dont know about their location in the file system.
Can anybody tell me, where should i create a folder and copy my files so that they appear as menu items in the start menu (in both KDE and GNOME) ?
Im eagerly waiting for a solution,

RedHat Apache 2.0.59 SSL will not start error loading modssl.so
- date: December 10, 2008
I cannot get Apache start with SSL. Below are the start command and error:
<servername> bin]$ ./apachectl startssl
Syntax error on line 250 of /apps/opt/hyperion/common/httpServers/Apache/2.0.59/conf/httpd.conf:
Cannot load /apps/opt/hyperion/common/httpServers/Apache/2.0.59/modules/mod_ssl.so into server: /apps/opt/hyperion/common/httpServers/Apache/2.0.59/modules/mod_ssl.so: undefined symbol: X509_free
If I comment out the LoadModule statement for mod_ssl.so and change the listen port, Apache starts up fine.
Unable to start postgresql service in Redhat linux 7
location: linuxexchange.com - date: June 11, 2015
I have installed postgresql 9.4 on Redhat 7 server. It was installed through postgresql-9.4.3-1-linux-x64.run. It displayed a clear message"postgres is installed your machine". Now when I login as
su - postgres
It doesn't ask for password and goes to bash prompt. If I type psql displays "command not found". When I tried starting service through root user
service postgresql initdb
The service command supports only basic LSB actions (start, stop, restart, try-restart, reload, force-reload, status). For other actions, please try to use systemctl.
I tried start postgres restart which didn't work. I tried searching and found nothing. I know its with starting service.
