Restarting Windows machine stops Linux machine mounting/connecting
location: linuxquestions.com - date: May 27, 2008
I am having a great deal of trouble getting a Linux machine to mount folders on a remote networked Windows XP machine reliably. I have four computers at home:
Study (XP Pro);
Bedroom (Ubuntu Hardy);
Parlour (XP Home); and
Kitchen (Ubuntu Hardy).
Study shares two volumes (separate physical drives) over SMB: Blue and Documents. Parlour shares one volume over SMB: Green. Bedroom shares two volumes over both SMB and NFS: /backup and /home/james. Kitchen shares one volume over NFS: /mnt/Red (it also shares the /home/valerie and /home/robert subsets thereof).
All four computers are connected to each other, and to the internet, through a wired network (Cat 5, fast ethernet), using a Westell four-port ADSL router.
There are three user accounts: valerie, robert and james (the Windows equivalents have mixed case usernames, appropriately dealt with in the Samba configuration files). No one computer is a domain server: it is a peer to peer network. On Study, the following network

Execute a command windows machine from Linux
location: linuxquestions.com - date: May 14, 2013
I have two commands that i like to run ad-hoc from time to time:
rtvdsklst.sh - a bash script
rtvdsklst.bat - a windows script
Both are scheduled to run at specifc time, the .sh from crontab, the .bat from windows "AT" task scheduler.
They also both produce the same output, just from the different OSes.
When i want to ad-hoc run the linux script on multiple machines, i use the ssh command below:
ssh linuxbox01 "nohup /mnt/ccmedia/gks/rtvdsks.sh </dev/null >/dev/null 2>&1 &"
ssh linuxbox02 "nohup /mnt/ccmedia/gks/rtvdsks.sh </dev/null >/dev/null 2>&1 &"
ssh linuxbox03 "nohup /mnt/ccmedia/gks/rtvdsks.sh </dev/null >/dev/null 2>&1 &"
When i want to ad-hoc run the windows bat file i have to log into a windows machine and run:
SCHTASKS /run /tn At1 /s windowsbox01
SCHTASKS /run /tn At1 /s windowsbox02
SCHTASKS /run /tn At1 /s windowsbox03
Note: the At1 task is S:\gks\rtvdsks

How can I resize a linux hdd with centos6.4(virtual) on a windows machine
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: October 10, 2013
Not sure if this is the right section to post this(new member)
I'm trying to shrink a linux hdd (450GB with 23GB used)so later I can clone it to another hdd. I've tried using I think most popular windows software that supposedly can read linux hdd, some do but unable to shrink or increase the partitions & space.
Right now I'm trying to mount the 2nd hdd with linux with centos running as virtual on a windows 7 machine. Is that possible?
Thanks in advance for any replies.
Accessing linux server from windows machine
location: linuxquestions.com - date: January 19, 2004
Hello everybody. I have a linux box that i would like to convert into a headless server without losing the ability to go in and make alternations to it.
I would like to be able to access the machine as root from another machine, preferably with the ability to use X in full. Is this possible? And how could I go about it?
As I understand it, what I want is to basically use my windows machine as a linux thin client. In order to do this, what do I need to set up on the two sides?
Any pointers are appreciated! Thanks!
