rpmbuild cpio read error
location: linuxquestions.com - date: January 20, 2004
I've tried to rebuild some srpms I got from freshrpms, ran into this type of problem for some srpms:
error: unpacking of archive failed on file /usr/src/redhat/SOURCES/lzo-1.08.tar.gz;400db4be: cpio: read
error: lzo-1.08-3.fr.src.rpm cannot be installed
What does this mean? The command I used is:
rpmbuild --rebuild --target=i686 lzo-1.08-3.fr.src.rpm

I recently installed the newest version of ubunut server a week ago. New to ubuntu and linux the server. Wanted to start learning it. Anyhow, when i rebooted my system periodically while playing around with it I started getting a fd0 read error. Per instructions online I did this:
su
grub-install /dev/sda
update-grub
Wasn't sure what it would actually do. No i realize it causes the system to boot into grub. Well I have no idea what to do to get my system back. I'm looked through help, online, whatever. I'm totally flustered now. I just want my system to boot back into my ubuntu server OS. I never want to see grub again and I want to get rid of the fd0 read error. Can someone please help me!!
when i do a 'ls' i get:
ubuntu-server-swap_1 ubuntu-server-root hdo hdo,msdos5 hdo,msdos1 fdo
ubuntu-server-root is the one that I shoudl be trying to get. ubuntu-server is what i named it when i did the install of the OS.

Hi,
I just installed Ubuntu Server 12.04.2 LTS on a virtual machine. During system boot I receive error fd0: read error. I repeated the installation on another machine and received the same error. I downloaded the iso file again and installed it but no luck. System continues and boots after this error but why I am receiving this error on a fresh installation?
Note: I have used Guided LVM Partitioning-Used entire disk

Grub2 error: "Loading Operating System... Read Error"
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: January 1, 2012
Hi all,
I recently had to reinstall Windows on my machine, which obviously took over the MBR. So I booted to a live-disk (on a USB key), then ran boot-repair to re-install Grub on all of the MBRs. This part went fine, but now I am having a very interesting issue--if I do not have the live USB key inserted into the computer, I get the following error when Grub is loading (i.e. before it shows the menu of OSes to select from):
Code:
Loading operating system...
Read error
This only happens when the USB key is not inserted.
Here are the things I have tried thus far to resolve this:
Boot into Ubuntu, eject the USB key, then re-run boot-repairBoot into Ubuntu, run sudo grub-install /dev/sdX for each of my discs, then run sudo update-grubChange the boot order in my bios to see if setting one of the non-windows drives to boot first would help
None of this has resolved the issue. I was posting for help originally in the boot-repair thread (link below), but this seems to be a

hd0 read error
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: May 28, 2011
I just built a computer to run as a small server in my living room. All has been going well, but I restarted it today and it gives me "error: hd0 read error.". It then puts me at the command prompt "grub rescue>" Obviously, something is messed up.
I checked settings in the BIOS to make sure nothing was funky, and also tried booting off an Ubuntu CD, but it just sat there for 10 minutes. I turned off the computer, played around a bit more, and now it won't even recognize a USB keyboard, so it's basically dead in the water.
All of the components were brand new, so it's hard to believe it's a hardware failure. Where do I go from here? This sucks...
Thanks,
James

So the other night I wiped my harddrive on one of my computers and burned the ubuntu 7.04 iso onto a CD and popped it in. the menu loads up and when I select install I get the error message @disk error 80, ax = 4200, drive
[email protected] at the top and @I/O error reading boot
[email protected] in a box that pops up. So I assumed it was a problem with the CD or iso so I downloaded it again from a different source and burned the iso again, same mesasge. Any ideas what the problem could be?
Error on boot "Read Error"
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: May 10, 2010
Hi Folks,
I have just installed Ubuntu 10.04LTS however when I attempt to boot the HDD I get the following error message
Read Error
Thats it nothing else, I am able to boot a USB installed version of Ubuntu 10.04LTS no proble. I can boot a Live CD of the same version no problem but when I installed it to the hard drive it just seems to fall over. I've tried adjusting the boot order, putting the HDD first and removing everything else but no joy. Im a linux n00b so no idea what to do next apart from go back to windows Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Dave
