run jar file doubleclick
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: April 14, 2012
I'm new to Ubunto i recently installed ubuntu 12.04 beta 2, and my main goal for that is to use it for java development.
I followed this guide to install jdk7-u3.
The java command line is working properly, i tried it for running a jar file and it worked fine but i would like to execute it by a simple double click just as i used to do under windows.
I googled before posting, and this is what i found:
- use "sudo chmod +x jarfile.jar"
- right-click/properties/open with/sun java x
now the problem is that there's no "sun java x" under the "open with" tab, even after i press the "show other applications" button.
Is there any way to run a jar file by double-clicking it in ubuntu?
Thanks in advance
How to open/run .jar file (doubleclick not working)?
location: linuxexchange.com - date: November 14, 2013
I can't open or run my .jar file.
I just installed java, but I tried to open the .jar with other programs first, so the double-click defaults to something else and I can't change it back.
java -jar myfile.jar returns "'java' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file."
Is there a way I can still open/run this?
Thanks very much
e: OS is Windows 8.
Also, I downloaded the .jar file; didn't create it myself (if that's relevant)
Not sure if it contains an executable (but I think it does)
How to run JAR file with different version of java
- date: September 30, 2011
I downloaded jdk and jre1.5.0_16 and compile my project(this one is quite old so it had some error with the newest version) in Eclipse fine. But my default JDK is still 1.6
:~/workspace/ims-communicator$ java -version
java version "1.6.0_20"
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea6 1.9.9) (6b20-1.9.9-0ubuntu1~10.10.2)
OpenJDK Server VM (build 19.0-b09, mixed mode)
so when i type
java -jar myproject.jar
it returns with error. How can i run with version 1.5 instead of 1.6
Can't work out how to run .jar file directly from USB music player in Ubuntu 12.04
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: September 24, 2012
It's probably a simple fix, but since moving to 12.04, I can't work out simple shortcuts to home folders from media/disk, that I can navigate to easily from the Terminal. I want to run NW-E00X_MP3_File_Manager-0.17a.jar which is an open source program to copy and manage music on an old Sony USB mp3 player. It needs to be an executable to run, or run from Terminal using SUDO I guess, but can't either select executable through the GUI or navigate to media through Terminal, nor set up a shortcut to media within the home or desktop folders.
Should I run Nautilus with super user/root privileges and set-up a link or can i make the file executable through this route?

Run Jar file on Ubuntu at system startup
location: linuxexchange.com - date: July 25, 2013
I'm trying to get a .jar file to run at startup on an Ubuntu machine, but I'm not getting anywhere.
I've tried the instructions here http://askubuntu.com/questions/99232/how-to-make-a-jar-file-run-on-startup-and-when-you-log-out , and I've tried using info from the Upstart site & cookbook, but they haven't worked. I've tried both the old SysV and the new Upstart approaches, but neither of them start the .jar on system startup.
Here is the shell script which runs the .jar
java -jar TransformationServer.jar
The file for the SysV startup approach
