Error verifying host key when using scp command
location: linuxquestions.com - date: July 1, 2011
I've got a problem atm with OpenNebula on Ubuntu 10.04
I'll try to explain the best i can as im not a Linux/Ubuntu expert:
I installed OpenNebula (front-end + 2 worker nodes) perfectly without problems. I can connect from one machine to another perfectly through SSH and it records my key.
Now the actual problem is at the last part, i create a VM using "onevm create x.template", and then when i use the "onevm deploy x" (x being the host/ip of one of the worker nodes) it doesn't let the machine use the "scp" command, and retrieves an error saying it failed and the host key verification failed.
Like i said before, i've successfully connected to the worker node through SSH before, i only get the verification key error when deploying the VM onto the worker node.

error unknown host given when trying to ping FQDN
location: linuxquestions.com - date: March 16, 2007
Hello me and my fellow classmates at our local college are running Linux Fedora Core 2. We have two computers connected together by D-link hubby. One computer is our server and the other is our client.
In a lab given to us by our instructor we are having some problems and we are hoping someone may be able to help us. When we get to step 7 in our lab we are able to use our client to ping our server however we are unable to ping it using its FQDN and recieve the error messsage "ping: unknown host www.linuxdomain.ca"
Anyone able to help us solve this problem would be most appreciated.
This is the lab posted below:
Set your current working directory to: /var/named
Determine if a directory exist called: chroot
If the above directory does not exist then create it: mkdir chroot
Move to the directory chroot cd chroot
Create a directory under chroot called: etc
Create a directory under chroot called: var
Create a directory under var called

[SOLVED] Error resolving host name through transparent squid
location: linuxquestions.com - date: June 22, 2009
I have squid 2.6 stable6 running in transparent mode on RHEL5. The squid is working as access.log has the entries of the client trying to browse through the proxy.
I can resolve the host names, ping and browse from the proxy. However, when I try to browse from the clients, the "unable to resolve host name" error appears. Interestingly, few times I am able to browse to google.com. The squid is configured with --enable-linux-netfilter option and squid.conf has "http_port 3128 transparent" and "http_port 80".
The nslookup at server shows:
www.yahoo.com canonical name = www.wa1.b.yahoo.com.
www.wa1.b.yahoo.com canonical name = www-real.wa1.b.yahoo.com.
However, at client nslookup gives:
DNS request timed out.
timeout was 2 seconds.

SERVFAIL error on host command
location: linuxquestions.com - date: January 9, 2014
My linux server was working perfectly till yesterday. And now I am at a complete loss to what happened. Consider me a newbie. I only configured it 3 days back.
my "hostname" command returns "myserver.PacketCableTesting.net"
This is perfect.
But when I run "host myserver.PacketCableTesting.net", I get:
"Host myserver.PacketCableTesting.net not found: 2(SERVFAIL)"
Yet, when I run "ping myserver.PacketCableTesting.net", the pings work perfectly with 0% loss, because the DNS server is running on my machine itself.
What is happening? Please help.
Sendmail Error 550 Host Unknown
- date: April 8, 2006
I've struggled with this problem for days. I cannnot send mail to an external address with sendmail. I can receive and send local mail and I can receive external mail. I am sending out of a router. At wits end, I am providing as much information as I can imagine will be helpful to help me solve this. The stated culprit is this host unknown error. But I know the mail server smtp is correct: smtp-server.nyc.rr.com. I even checked the nyclug if anyone had problems with road runner. I can telnet localhost, the smtp-server.nyc.rr.com mailserver. I know the port 25 is open. I suspect that I need to change host server name in etc/host, but I have had no success. Is this an access file issue? Is gmail just bouncing back my mail? I want to solve this because that is what we do. I understand that I could use another application, but lets solve this one.
Here is th MAIL LOG:
