Odd runtime error, undefined symbol: sshchannelnew
location: linuxquestions.com - date: January 4, 2012
I'm writing a simple c++ program with libssh (http://www.libssh.org/) that will create an ssh connection with my samba server, and then create a user with an inputted username and password.
My program compiles with no errors or warnings, and it executes the first several functions from the libssh library without any problems; however, when my program tries to execute the ssh_channel_new command, I get the run time error: ./myProgram: symbol lookup error: ./myProgram: undefined symbol: ssh_channel_new
I'm using a makefile generated from QT's qmake, and added -lssh to the LIBS option line.
Here is the code leading up to the error, most of it is copied from the libssh examples, so I really don't know what could be going wrong. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Compile error: undefined reference to `usbcontrolmsg'
- date: November 13, 2012
My first post. I'm pretty much a complete noob with Linux. I'm trying to compile and program which I've found. I'm a professional .Net developer, so have a good development understanding.
I'm compiling this program here:
This is my makefile:
# build hub-ctrl executable when user executes "make"
$(CC) $(LDFLAGS) hub-ctrl.o -o hub-ctrl
$(CC) $(CFLAGS) -c hub-ctrl.c
# remove object files and executable when user executes "make clean"
rm *.o hub-ctrl
And this is the compiler output
cc -c hub-ctrl.c
cc hub-ctrl.o -o hub-ctrl
hub-ctrl.o: In function `hub_port_status':
hub-ctrl.c:(.text+0xb4): undefined reference to `usb_control_msg'
hub-ctrl.o: In function `usb_find_hubs':
hub-ctrl.c:(.text+0x390): undefined reference to `usb_get

I am trying to compile a very simple example c++ program on my system which is itanium2 (IA-64).
The example program is provided by a imaging software company, along with their set of libraries.
The jist of it is I write my own code to do what I need and link it with their libraries so I can read/write their library format.
Step 1 is making sure I can compile and link one of their simple examples.
I can compile the example program via g++ -c
but when I try to link it I get the following errors.
I'm guessing they compiled their libraries with some sort of other standard library template that I don't have?
The provider of the libraries has compiled them on an ia-64 linux system using gcc versions 4.2.4 and 3.2.3. Initially I thought the problem was they had done it with 3.2.3 and I had 4.1.2, but now they've provided me the libraries made on either a Suse or Redhat system with gcc version 4.x but it still does not work for me.
What could I be missing? Any help would be greatly appre
