Flash 11 no vdpau support?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: October 9, 2011
Just upgraded to flash 11.0.152 (32bit) and I noticed that cpu usage on Youtube has jumped up sharply, I clicked on the video, from the setting it says "software rendering" so it is not using vdpau. Am I missing something? Flash 10 has been working very nicely with hardware acceleration on my machine.
Flash 11.2.202.228 solutions
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: April 7, 2012
The most recent versions of Flash, 11.2.202.228, is causing a lot of problems to nVidia users, like the SMURF effect. This thread intends to provide the possible solutions the easiest way possible.
Possible Solutions
1 - Disable hardware acceleration in Flash
You can do that by visiting a video on YouTube, right-clicking on it, selecting the Settings option then Display tab. Just untick the option Enable hardware acceleration
If the settings dialog doesn't respond to mouse clicks, then close it, enter the fullscreen video mode and try again.
If that doesn't help, you can try to add a special line to /etc/adobe/mms.cfg. To that, open a terminal and open the file in an editor with gksudo:
Code:
gksudo gedit /etc/adobe/mms.cfg
Add the following line:
Code:
EnableLinuxHWVideoDecode=0
Save it. Restart the browser and check if it works. If it doesn't work, you can try to use EnableLinuxHWVideoDecode=1 instead, but that will probably cause flash instability.

11.04 Beta LiveUSB
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: April 2, 2011
Hi everyone!
Today I decided I want to try the 11.04 beta came couple of days ago.
So, I downloaded the desktop amd64 (actually my processor is Intel Core i5 2500k, I don't know if that matters since its the only 64bit version I found)
So, I used Universal USB Installer to get this on USB. Currently there is no entry for 11.04 so I just selected "Try Unlisted ISO (New Syslinux)"
Then I booted from the USB, everything went well except for the fact that I didn't see the famous Unity launcher. There was just a ubuntu button of the left of the Panel that when I clicked on it it showed the menues.
Anyway, I created partitions and stuff and loaded the installer app. I chose my ext4 partition for ubuntu to install on (mounted as /) and everything went okay till the end when an error pops up (I am so stupid I forgot what was it..)
I was afraid of my new computer so I just deleted all the partitions.
Any ideas? Did someone also had it?

Adobe Flash 11 RELEASE install information for AMD64 (October 2011 update)

To moderators: please make this post sticky. It's predecessor was sticky on the x86-64 forum, but that forum is now closed. Thank you.
NEWS! Adobe Flash 11 for 64-bit is finally released!
Designed for 64-bit versions of Ubuntu starting with Hardy 8.04.
Do NOT use this script on any 32-bit version of Ubuntu.
Why use these instructions?
Instructions on Adobe website in "download flash player" are actually inaccurate for Linux 64-bit and will make you install Flash version 10. You do not want that.
Instructions on a popular sevenmachines ppa give a beta version with known security holes. You don't want that either.
Which browser is supported?
The only supported browsers are 64-bit Firefox 3.6 and 64-bit Firefox 10 provided by Ubuntu team. Lucid 10.04 and Maverick 10.10 supply functional version of FF 3.6 browser; otherwise you must obtain updated one from firefox-stable PPA. Detailed instructions here: FirefoxNewVersion from ubuntu community wiki.

It actually does a really good job of making GNOME 3 "Pinguy-ish", and it's quite a bit more usable than stock GNOME 3. The rest of it is the same Pinguy OS I've come to know and love.
