Samba or Samba4? Which one, and why?

Just because I see both in the repos, I am kind of curious.
Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and Samba4 full release
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: December 13, 2012
Wondering does anyone know if Ubuntu 12.04 LTS server will get the full release version of Samba4 server in the repository now that the Samba team have released it?
I see that it currently has Samba4 alpha18 which is a bit buggy and missing a lot of elements.
Thanks in advance
samba4 vs smb

ok i know there are a couple of samba threads out there but i did not find anything about this specific issue
i have ubuntu server and tried to
apt-get install samba
ubuntu kindly told me that i should install samba4, and so i did
now, my very first issue is, the smb.conf file that is being delivered with samba4 (or was it already there? i did not choose to install samba when i installed the server at any rate) is wrong
it contains parameters that samba does not recognize while starting
i kicked it and installed samba (3.x i presume) - the one which has "smbd" as name and not "samba" - which worked out of the box as i expected - ALMOST
the shares worked fine but the problem i had is, i apparently could not stop that thing?!
executed without any error - but smbd kept running in the process list, shares i added/removed/changed rights/etc updated at arbitrary times (instead of after calling "smdb restart") so ye... tha
Samba4 : sambatool dns add
location: linuxquestions.com - date: May 5, 2013
I have set up Samba4 on Ubuntu Server 13.04 64bit.
I have tried adding a Windows 7 Client machine which is set to resolve DNS from this server (using Samba's internal DNS Server) but I get an error message stating that the SRV record was queried successfully yet the domain controller could not be found. It states that common reasons for this are that there are no A records for the domain controller.
I know that the samba-tool command needs to be used as such:
samba-tool dns add <server> <zone> <name> <A|AAAA|PTR|CNAME|NS|MX|SRV|TXT> <data>
If my server is called server01 and my domain is example.local and the IP address of the server is 192.168.1.1 what would the command be that I would need to enter in to setup an A record for my SERVER01 host.
(Providing that an A record is what I need to resolve this).............
Samba4 joining Windows 7 workgroup
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: February 23, 2010
Hello, I'm having some problem to add my Ubuntu 9.10 to a workgroup managed by Windows 7.
Windows 7 is managing the workgroup and has other 2 Windows PCs connected to him.
I'm trying to add to that workgroup also my Ubuntu 9.10 PC using Samba4, but from Ubuntu the Windows network is not shown inside networks and from Windows I can't see my Ubuntu.
Do you have any suggestion?
Samba4 on Centos 6.4

I have installed the Samba4 in my computer that has CentOS as OS, but when I execute the command
kinit [email protected]
I receive the message
'kinit: Cannot resolve servers for KDC in realm "LABORATORIO.CNP.IFMT.EDU.BR" while getting initial credentials'
What does it mean? How can I solve this?

samba4 and ACL
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: August 28, 2010
I am running ubuntu server 10.04 32-bit. I compiled samba4 from git and everything works like a dream: Adding clients to the domain, managing users and groups, applying GPOS. The only problem is with changing ACLs of samba shares.
Whenever I try to add an ACE to an existing ACL or try to edit an existing ACE, after pressing OK it simply dissapears. I am doing this from a windows XP pro domain computer by opening windows explorer and selecting properties>security from the context menu.
Browsing samba forums and searching google has yielded no solution so far.
Is anybody else experiencing similar problems?
Does anybody have a clue why this could be?
Thanks in advance.
Here my smb.conf as located in /usr/local/samba/etc:

[SOLVED] Samba4 DNS configuration problems
location: linuxquestions.com - date: July 8, 2013
I have an environment of W-servers that I want to migrate to Linux because of the license fees. As the workstations are bound to W7 (applications) I want to keep these as is. The idea is to make a (new) domain where all the workstations (~12) connect to.
I have installed samba4.0.7 on a Debian7-64 machine following the instructions on https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba_AD_DC_HOWTO. I build it from the sources.
But when it comes to "Testing DNS" the command
host -t SRV _ldap._tcp.OBG.local. gives the error _ldap._tcp.OBG.local. has no SRV record.
And so on for all the DNS commands. I thought I did not have to do any configuration when I used the internal dns-server.
I searched the net for how-to's for Samba4 but cannot find one that works
Can anyone point me to a site where I can find instructions how to get it working or tell me what I forgot or did wrong?
