Not able to install squid on ubuntu 9.04
location: linuxquestions.com - date: July 7, 2009
I am trying to install squid in Ubuntu 9.04 and
I get this message
Couldn't find any package whose name or description matched "squid"
when I tried using the command
sudo aptitude install squid squid-common
ubuntu squid proxy redirect to another proxy pac.
location: linuxquestions.com - date: February 16, 2013
Currently right now i point my Firefox to a proxy server with a pac file to get out to one site. The site requires auth.
Due to my kids getting older i want to implement a net nanny type of solution. I've gone with DansGuardian. So I setup Ubuntu in a vm with squid and Dansguardian.
So that's good and all. The question I have is that the initial proxy settings i have setup in firefox for the one specific site. Is there a way to have squid point to that pack file. So when PC A surfs to that site, squid then redirects to that other proxy.
Any help would be great.

Squid/DNS Intermittent Issue
location: linuxquestions.com - date: July 23, 2005
squid 2.5.STABLE10 (localhost) on slackware 10.1...
i am getting an intermittent/sporadic squid DNS error when surfing the web (through squid)... it will happen with known good URLs and when it happens the "outage" only lasts less than a minute... the URL works fine if accessed directly without the proxy... the error message is usually the classic squid "name error... the cache was unable to resolve, blah blah blah"...
the squid access log shows that there's TCP_MISS/503 errors when the problem occurs... AFAIK everything looks as if it was an invalid URL during the outage - but once again, the URLs are known good and perfectly accessible using non-squid means at the exact same moment in which squid is giving the dns error...
as for troubleshooting, i've played with the conf file a lot, and recompiled squid several times, stripping it down a little more each time, tinkering with the configure options - the problem is not affected... BTW, i've compiled squid
[SOLVED] SQUID reverse proxy with SSL.
location: linuxquestions.com - date: November 15, 2011
I have setup squid to run as a reverse proxy and redirect to 2 web servers for HTTP traffic. This is currently working. I now want to add HTTPS (SSL) support and not had any luck.
I installed squid 2.7 on Ubuntu 10.4 because this was the default with apt-get install squid.
I tried following THIS guide and I get the following error:

Transparent Proxy (squid + Dansguardian) with one NIC
location: linuxquestions.com - date: November 17, 2009
I would like to seek anyone suggestions regarding my issue here.
I have setup transparent proxy (squid + dansguardian) 172.16.4.7/24 into one server with only one NIC card. I dont want to use 2 NICs for the reason I dont want my proxy box to be placed between LAN and firewall/router.
I,m attaching it with my core switch Cisco and forcing my clients to use the proxy as the gateway.
here is my network:

lan01 lan02 proxy
I,m using below iptables command to allow my proxy to be transparent to my clients:
# Squid server IP
# Interface connected to Internet
# Address connected to LAN
# Squid port
# Clean old firewall
iptables -t na
Will updating to Ubuntu 7.10 create problems for Squid 2.6
location: linuxquestions.com - date: February 4, 2009
I am currently running Squid 2.6 on a system with Ubuntu 7 OS.
There is an update to Ubuntu 7.10 to be downloaded and I'm wondering if I should update the OS.
I started setting this system up in 10/07. I really had a hard time getting Squid to work properly. I have very limited Linux skills, really only what I learned while trying to setup this system.
However, I have not had any problems and don't want to create any.
Okay, I'm chicken.
If anyone knows of any issues, please let me know.
