How to print from web client without seeing a print dialog box
location: linuxquestions.com - date: October 14, 2011
I'm in the process of rewriting a kiosk application. It was originally written in C#.Net as a Windows app. We want make it web based so it can be available to people with laptops, iPhones, iPads, etc. in addition to the dedicated kiosks.
The problem is that printer output is necessary, and it seems that for security reasons, browsers do not allow direct printing. I need some help to at least understand the kinds of approaches that would work.
Here are my assumptions and requirements:
The server can be platform specific, and is capable of generating the information to be printed (HTML, JSON, XML, PDF, Whatever).
All client software must be cross-platform (Linux, Windows, Mac, PDA).
All client software must be cross-browser (OK to limit to HTML5).
Client software is preferred to be open-source.
It's ok to assume printing on a default printer.
Printing must be automatic, with no printer dialog allowed.
I've spent about 10 hours so far researching possible solutions. I have come up

Hi guys. I'm new here, but not exactly new to the Linux world. I used to run Slackware 10+ years ago, and, after a long Linux hiatus, decided to try Ubuntu. My Pentium 4 3.0GHz was a little slow running it, so I choose Xubuntu.
It's running fine, and I really like it. I'm thinking about replacing almost all of my Windows installations with it.
...but there's a problem. I have a KVM installed, and I use it to alternate my KB+M between this Pentium 4 machine and my other computer. Trouble is, if I try to boot Xubuntu without the KVM switch set to the machine I run Xubunu on, it displays the wallpaper, but nothing more. It doesn't hang, as I can access the terminal using CTRL+ALT+Fx, but I have to reboot and keep the KB+M attached to it if I want to get a login screen.
As I usually turn the machine on while I'm using the other, I wanted to know if there's a fix for that. I tried Googling, but all I found was issues with not having a monitor connected. That's not my problem: if I set th
[SOLVED] Linux Mint 12: Blank black screen after pressing CtrlAltF1, possibly larger issue
location: linuxquestions.com - date: December 27, 2011
Note before I start: I am a COMPLETE newbie and a Windows convert who knows pretty much nothing about Linux. I had Ubuntu 11.10 installed and working fine, but it crashed too often for my liking and I wasn't a fan of Unity, so I installed Mint 12. I hate to make things inconvenient, but I'll probably need more specific instructions.
I actually probably have several issues, but I'll try to start at the beginning.
So, I have a NVIDIA GeForce 6150 nForce 430 graphics card. I was trying to change the screen resolution and the only options were 800x600 and 1024x768. My monitor is 1920x1080, normally. When I went to System Info, I noticed that under "Graphics", there was the text "Experience Fallback". As such, I assumed that I needed to download a new driver. I downloaded the appropriate .run file from NVIDIA's website. I looked up how to execute it, changed the permissions of the file to executable, and tried to run it using sudo. The installer told me that I was ru
[SOLVED] A good torrent client besides Transmission
location: linuxquestions.com - date: December 14, 2011
I have started to notice that Transmission is not my favorite BitTorrent client. It seems too "simple for me". There are tons of clients out there and I dont know which one to pick. I was thinking Vuze but then i saw qTorrent. I want something like uTorrent. Detailed UI full of info about my torrents. Any suggestions?
[SOLVED] FTPES command line client?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: May 22, 2013
I'm running CentOS 5.9. I use curl to send files via script to a FTPS server.
Now I need to send files via script to a FTPES server (FTP, Explicit, SSL, port 21).
From wikipedia: In explicit mode (also known as FTPES), an FTPS client must "explicitly request" security from an FTPS server and then step-up to a mutually agreed encryption method. If a client does not request security, the FTPS server can either allow the client to continue in unsecure mode or refuse/limit the connection.
curl doesn't support FTPES and when trying with lftp I get a message stating it wasn't support either.
curl -u useraccount -P 21 ftpes://someserver.domain.com
Enter host password for user 'useraccount':
curl: (1) Unsupported protocol: ftpes
lftp -u useraccount -p 21 ftpes://someserver.domain.com
/usr/lib64/lftp/3.7.11/proto-ftpes.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
lftp: ftpes - not supported protocol
Does anyone know of a command

Maybe I am posting something completely obvious and unnecessary here, but this is the best web site ever I found as reference for web programming.
What makes this web site so special is that om almost all pages which explain some aspects of the language, a button "Try it yourself" takes you to a screen with two panes. In one pane the example is written, the other pane shows the output on a web page. In the first window you can actually change the code snippet, and see the result immediately in the pane on the other side. That is a great way to study why certain things occur as they do.
KDE login screen keyboard layout
location: linuxquestions.com - date: March 28, 2005
I'm using a more rarely used svorak-layout, another variation of swedish dvorak. The layout is working just fine in the text console and also in KDE.
How can I choose my own layout for the KDE login screen? I know how it should be done, but there is only two locale options for the login screen: american english and british english. I can't even choose a plain dvorak layout for the graphical login screen. Where are the login screen locale options configured?
I'm using Mandrake 10.2 (KDE 3.3)
