[SOLVED] how to install gui to Centos 6.3 via SSH w/remote control
location: linuxquestions.com - date: February 11, 2013
I've got a brand new server to manage with CentOS 6.3 installed (w/o a GUI installed) and it was thrown in my lap as the other guy quit.
I have SSH root access and have moved around a bit on the command line, but basic procedures are soooo time-consuming that I wish to have a GUI to work with.
What I need is to install a GUI via SSH and have VNC enabled so I can get to the console remotely.
What GUI does anyone recommend (that's free, preferably) that is VNC compatible? And where do I begin?
Step one: find a CentOS-6.3 GUI online
Step two: install it
Step three: download & install a VNC host software package
Step four: enable the host and login

location: linuxquestions.com - date: May 10, 2010
I am using skype in fedora 9. I am searching how can I delete skype call/chat history. I have searched some .dbb files in /home/<username>/.Skype/<skyID> directory like chatmsg2048.dbb. Can I safely remove these files in order to delete my chat history. Also, I cannot view these .dbb files in gedit. If I can read these files, I can better decide which history I need to delete.
[SOLVED] How to install a .tar.gz pkg?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: April 24, 2013
After a full installation of slackware, i need to install some of my favorites like geany, vlc, etc. All of these are not available in sbokpg or have dependency issues. So i decided to install using zipped packages.
Now the zip files with .txz or .tgz are installed without any issue i'm having issues installing those with .tar.gz extension. Some i managed to install using rpm packages.
Even though following faithfully the "solutions" to install .tar.gz, I could not install a single .tar.gz package. Could anyone help with the process of installing a .tar.gz?
[SOLVED] How to install firefox extensions for all users
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: May 17, 2010
I am wondering the "new way" to install firefox extensions for all users.
From https://developer.mozilla.org/En/Command_Line_Options we can see that the "old way" is no longer available.
-install-global-extension and -install-global-theme have been removed from Gecko 1.9.2 and upwards.
I'm using the Lucid UNE to write this and note that it has these extensions installed for every user:
Ubuntu Firefox Modifications
I have several users on many computers and would like to have certain extensions installed for them, such as xmarks, add bookmark here, coolpreview, etc.
I searched the entire root filesystem and didn't find any .xpi files.
Can someone give me an idea on how to do this? How does Ubuntu do it?

[SOLVED] How to install Rogue Class Linux to USB flash
location: linuxquestions.com - date: August 4, 2013
Someone asked how to install Rogue Class Linux on a USB flash drive. This is somewhat technical and I hope to make it easier in the future. In the meanwhile, here are some notes on the subject.
The first step is to detach your hard disks except for the USB flash drive. The installer depends on LILO, which cannot always tell the difference between the USB flash disk and the first SATA disk .
The next step is to install from CD, selecting the USB flash drive as the install target. This is the normal install process described in the user guide.
Once the install process is finished, it is normal to reboot the computer. VirtualBox and computers with old BIOS cannot boot from USB flash drives . To work around this limitation, boot the install CD and immediately hold down the Esc key. This will interrupt syslinux and show a boot: prompt. At this prompt, type:
hugesmp.s rootdelay=10 root=/dev/sda1 rdinit= ro
This will boot the kernel from CD and the system from the USB fla
