[SOLVED] Installing 32bit rpm on 64bit architecture needs more than multilibpolicy?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: May 7, 2013
A 32-bit application needs many rpm packages on our 64-bit CentOS 5. I have added multilib_policy=all in yum.conf, and 'includepkgs=*.i386 *.x86_64' in repo files, but 'yum list|install' only showed packages of $basearch, i.e. x86_64.
When I add specific, 32-bit repos into repository files, 32-bit packages showed up.
Since this installation involves many repo's, it is quite inconvenient to add all 32-bit repo's. I wonder if there is an easy way, say, somehow to assign $basearch in repo files a value of i386?

[SOLVED] Installing Google Earth on Sid 64 bit. Page 3
location: linuxquestions.com - date: March 30, 2013
I think the Testing repository is not needed anymore, since I don't have it in my sources.list and haven't had issues so far. Also, ia32-libs and ia32-libs-gtk are on Sid's repository and the versions of these packages I'm using belong to Sid, so probably there's no need to use the ones from Testing anymore:

I wouldn't want the binaries to be installed in the wrong place.
Re reading this thread and taking notes to read through gave me insight and I now understand now how important using "prefix" is.
Being intimidated by the compilation is now a thing of the past.

Do as it says in the tutorial. You should make a directory for example C:\linuxiso, something easy to remember because in the tutorial it states:
