[SOLVED] Generating SSH Key at the console What file needs to be copied to my usb drive?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: February 17, 2011
I've been giving the task to go to a Linux console as root.
and generate a ssh rsa 4096bit key, and copy the private key to a USB drive.
1) What command should I use here? ssh-keygen -t rsa -b 4096 ?
2) Do I need to append the new private key to the authorized_users file? Which file exactly must be appended there? Would this be sufficient?
mkdir -p /home/myuser/.ssh
cat id_rsa_LOCAL.pub >> /home/myuser/.ssh/authorized_keys
Should any special permissions be applied to this file?
3) Which file must be sent to my usb drive so that I can take it home to connect with?
A step by step guide to accomplish this would be great!
[SOLVED] Load Balancer Solution with Linux
location: linuxquestions.com - date: August 31, 2012
I need a suggestion to realize a proper solution to this problem:
As you can see in the image above, I have 2 application servers that need to talk with and external third party provider over the internet, at the moment the configuration is very simple, the firewall have a ptp VPN with the remote provider and the application server call directly the remote host with a firewall rule ad-hoc to enable the communication to the remote host via the ptp VPN.
This kind of configuration have no redundancy, because the actual remote host have 2 different public IPs, in different part of the world. The problem is that when the remote host IP 1 is down the whole thing doesn't work, but the firewall is not "smart" enough to switch in real time to the other IP and provide some sort of NAT. So my idea was to move all this logic to a software installed on a layer4/layer7 load balancer installed on another host, so the 2 app serve
[SOLVED] Critical code needs atomic execution
location: linuxquestions.com - date: May 13, 2011
I need to insure the "writer" to named shared memory (small size, 160 bytes) completes his task such that the many "readers" always get the latest data.
The machine is a multi-processor (8 CPU, 24 Gig RAM), non-real time system. The system has multiple processes that are also multi-threaded. Thankfully, there is only 1 "writer" and many "readers". There is no semaphore or mutex locking. "Readers" must not block each other and especially not block the "writer".
By design, it is expected from time to time a "reader" will be in the middle of reading when the "writer" begins to update the data.
I want to protect against the case of the "writer" being interrupted and a "reader" completes it's read before the "writer" wakes up and completes it's changes. In this case the "reader" will get corrupt data, some new and some old.
Any ideas, experiences addressing
[SOLVED] Solution for Flash player crashing all the time in x8664
location: linuxquestions.com - date: March 28, 2011
I was having severe problems under Slackware64-current with the Adobe Flash Player plugin for Firefox. Browsing and watching videos on YouTube was a pain in the neck with the player crashing when opening a couple of tabs, and constant lockups for several seconds while the plugin wrapper that was running it was taking one CPU core for itself.
It seems the problem stems from a recent change in glibc that modified the memcpy implementation and caused a bit of havok in some packages. I'm guessing it's the same change (or a similar one) that caused problems with sysklogd and iptraf, among others, with strcpy and overlapping strings. Remember the patches:
Strictly speaking, those are problems in the program source code, but most people seem to think it's a bad idea to provide a memcpy that doesn't work for overlapping strings. A bit of discussion can be found here, with a few pr
[SOLVED] Basket Note Pads on Slack13 x64 needs KDE 3.5
location: linuxquestions.com - date: September 22, 2009
Now that I have my Slack machine acting as a RDP Server I can continue installing and configuring in the comfort of my living room.
On Kubuntu I was running KDE 4.2 and I was able to install a very nice note taking app called Basket Note Pads. I found this app to be one of the best note taking apps around and I would really like to have this installed on my Slackware box. The problem is the developer has abondoned development and will not provide KDE4 packages. So my options are installing KDE3 or porting the code. I think I'll try the former.
I "successfully" installed QT 3.3.8 but when I try to install KDE Libs I get some errors (which I'll have to post after work).
Has anyone managed to install KDE 3.5 on Slack13 and get it working, if so could you provide a walkthrough?

1.Check if openchrome is installed in your system by using synaptic packet manager
2.Check the xorg.conf file
a) Most Ubuntus set your graphics driver to vesa.Change this to openchrome
b)Load teh dri module.DRI is for direct hardware acceleration
c) configure the frequency of your monitor ( if it goes blank, while loading this xorg.conf - this happens after you log out and log in to your account)
It looks like this :

[SOLVED] Need NTFS USB 1TB hard drive needs to be read only except under Linux
location: linuxquestions.com - date: December 28, 2014
I use Crunchbang Linux on my own machines exclusively and hence, I format most of my external drives as ext4
However, I regularly transfer files to colleagues via an NTFS formatted 1TB drive. (they all use various versions of Windows)
I need a way to protect this drive from malware and user-error on these Windows machines.
Is there any way to make an NTFS drive read-only by default but writeable on my machine?
Alternatively, is there any alternative to NTFS that won't require installing additional software to everyone else's Windows machines?
[SOLVED] Gparted needs "Root" access to execute from XFCE Menu
location: linuxquestions.com - date: October 5, 2012
I've built Gparted in Slackware 14, and I can run it as root from a Terminal.
But, it is also in the XFCE -- APPLICATIONS MENU -> SYSTEM -> Gparted
and I'd like to be able to execute it from there.
How do I edit the XFCE Menu selection for Gparted so it will execute?
I use Gparted all the time from Debian 6 with no problems.........
I've searched through all the Menu's trying to find something that will
allow me to change the permissions on the Menu items.
