[SOLVED] how to change login screen background in XFCE LMDE
location: linuxquestions.com - date: April 26, 2012
Had to play around a bit before finding out how to do it, so here's easy instructions in case somebody needs it (worked on Linux Mint Debian Edition as of april 2012):
The login screen is handled by the gdm3 application. There's a gdm3setup app that can change configuration, background etc but I never got it to work.
If you want to manually change background on the login screen, edit this file:
sudo gedit /usr/share/linuxmint/adjustments/gdm3/greeter.gconf-defaults
And change the line:
to the path of your picture (can't remember what was the original one, this is the one I'm using). It needs to be a 1920x1200 size PNG file, or you'll end up with just a blue background.
You can also change theme etc of the login screen in this file.
you might need to change background picture path in the bottom line of this file as well, not sure:

How do I change the startup splash screen?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: July 3, 2012
So I'm running ubuntu 12.04 LTS. Wanted to know how I can completely customize my startup which includes the wallpaper, logo etc.
I searched on this and found ubuntu Tweak and Boot Manager etc but they don't install. I do it through the terminal. They use 'ppa' for download and I always get a 404 error, the download never completes.
Need help, i'm new to linux so don't know much.

Kubuntu 12.10 on X120e Boot gray screen
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: April 22, 2013
Hey all, go easy on me if I'm making a noob mistake.
I am dual booting Win7/Kubuntu 12.10 using Grub2. All on a single drive, all partitions seem to be correct, using the 64bit version. I can boot from the USB key just fine but not from the disk after selecting Kubuntu from Grub.
After installing off of a live cd (via USB) grub was not working so I ran boot-repair selecting recommended fixes. Grub started working, I can boot to windows but not to Kubuntu. When I select Kubuntu I get a grey screen that just stays there until I power down. No progress screen appears and no sounds are played.
Am I overlooking something?
Solved Cannot load /usr/lib/apache2/modules/libphp5.so into server
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: November 30, 2010
I am not too good with Linux, but I am trying to learn. Kindly bear with me.
My apache and wordpress were running fine till this morning. I ran updates via webmin, though I wasn't sure what those updates were for.
Then when I tried to access mysite.com, index.php downloads instead of opening.
I tried some troubleshooting and followed a form where it was advised to enable mod php5, so I did a2enmod php5 and tried to restart apache.
Since I get this error Cannot load /usr/lib/apache2/modules/libphp5.so into server.
Please help me as I don't want to loose all the previous configuration I have.
Thanks for any possible help or guidance
