[Solved] High load web server
location: linuxquestions.com - date: March 3, 2014
I'm running a news publishing system on an octacore amd server with 24GB ram. PHP seems to be running every core to the full. I need to know whether I can bring this load down. I know the question may seem desperate and stupid but I can't upgrade the server at least for the next couple of days.
I'm attaching the htop screenshot
Here's the prefork MPM portion of httpd.conf
After install, fedora starts, does startup, black screen with blue bar at top?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: March 21, 2007
I recently installed Fedora, install went just fine, popped the disc out and asked me to reboot.
It goes through the usual startup stuff, then I just get a black screen with a little blue bar at the top, no mouse cursor. However if I move my mouse to the top of the screen, I see what appears to be the top of a cursor on the little blue bar. I take it this is some sort of video problem, my card is the eVGA x8800gts card, so I assume it may not be compatible? Thanks guys!
[SOLVED] Fedora 20 startup hangs
location: linuxquestions.com - date: March 13, 2014
Intel E5200 dual-core processor, 4 GB RAM,
one 2 TB disk, with GRUB2 boot to
Fedora 20/Fedora Rescue/Windows Vista
I was on Fedora 14, but my disks crashed.
Most of my stuff was on FAT32 and NTFS partitions,
and they were rescued on to a new 2 TB disk.
Five days ago (after some struggling) I installed
Fedora 20 in a 512 GB non-LVM partition,
with no swap. I've been running Fedora 20
for five days, but today 2014-03-13 the system
was hanging, with the disk activity light
constantly on, and VERY slow response.
I power-cycled my PC but the Fedora 20
start-up hung, in various places,
mostly on [ OK ] Starting System Logging Service
or [ OK ] Started Login Service
I tried some four times, eventually I tried to
boot up Fedora Rescue, but with the same outcome.
I powered the PC down for two hours (to "cool off"),
but that didn't help. I've now started up
Window Vista (and I'm using Cygwin).
Where do I go from here? Can the boot-up be interrupted?
(Control-C certainly did
[SOLVED] control lxde startup programs
location: linuxquestions.com - date: December 22, 2009
Hello. How can I control which programs are started up with lxde? With fluxbox, there's a /home/mark/.fluxbox/startup file, but there isn't a similar file with lxde. I checked the $HOME/.config/openbox file, but I didn't find anything there. So, does anyone know how a user can control which programs are started up with lxde? I use Debian Lenny.
[SOLVED] problem with setting right screen resolution in Debian Lenny
location: linuxquestions.com - date: November 17, 2009
Sorry for opening another thread on same subject...
Since upgrade to Lenny I have permanent problem with my screen resolution. My laptop is Toshiba Satellite 1800 with Trident CyberBlade video card. There were no troubles while running Debian Etch.
My problem is that even though maximum screen resolution is 1240x780, I can use only 800x600 and 480x320. I'm running Xorg and Gnome Desktop. I've read few howtos and tried to write my own xorg.conf using modeline, but with slight success. I only succeded with setting 1240x780 scrollable window inside the 800x600 frame (the rest of the screen is black). Which is rather strange. It seems there must be some other setting before the xorg.conf during the boot up process? Ofcourse, setting screen via grub made no difference...
I wouldn't write this if I didn't try myself first (and failed), so please someone who know what to do can help me?

[SOLVED] Chrome browser gives blank screen
location: linuxquestions.com - date: April 6, 2011
Firstly, chrome browser works great on Ubuntu.
I am bringing up a linux mint debian edition box and FF4 browser works great.
Alas, chrome, chrome beta, chrome unstable, or chromium browser all come up and will display task manager (but not nerd stats), preferences, and about (release info) all ok.
Tabs at top ok. I have removed and reinstalled but no joy.I have no doubt LMDE would be lit up w/ bug reports if it really d/n support Chrome browser. but,
NO MAIN DISPLAY. I can move my cursor over the screen and see the hyperlinks picked up.
All indications are that Chrome is working, but for some reason i cannot display what is in the window. it is just a blank screen, tho tabs seem ok.
Additionally, about:config (or any about does not work. I have tried deleting my profile but cannot figure what else to try.
I did reset preferences to default, no joy.
Any bright ideas ?
Thanks, IR Stumped
