[SOLVED] Where are configuration files for gdm login screen under Ubuntu 11.04?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: January 4, 2012
I am running Ubuntu 11.04 'natty' on several computers, mostly upgraded from earlier versions of Ubuntu. During the past few version releases, utilities for configuring the login screen have changed, and apparently there have been changes in the configuration files where the parameters for the login screen have changed, along with the location of these files.
My problem is the some settings when could be made under 10.04 or 10.10 can't be modified by current programs, such as "Ubuntu Tweak" and "Login Screen". In particular, in an earlier version I was able to set a line of text which appears above where the user name and password are selected or entered. The current utilities are not able to access this text, so I am left with text referring to an earlier version of Ubuntu, for example.
What I need to know is where the configuration is stored, so I can change it 'manually'. It doesn't seem to be under /etc/gdm - the settings in /etc/gdm/custom.conf don't have

Press enter to boot the selected OS. 'e' to edit the command before booting or 'c' for a command-line.
When I choose any of the options It again directs me to blank page prior to Login Window.

[SOLVED] PlayOnLinux Game Launches in full screen with GNOME panel at end of screen
location: linuxquestions.com - date: July 16, 2011
I installed a game in POL for my niece in Linux Mint 11 (the game ran perfectly in full screen). I have since downgraded to Ubuntu 10.04. I use manual partitions so all my settings remain in the home directory. I went to launch Sims 3 in POL and it runs in full screen alright but the GNOME panel appears at the end of the screen.
I did go to Wine config and selected 'Emulate a virtual desktop' and then tried to launch the game via
~/.PlayOnLinux but it wont launch that way.
Can someone help me solve this? At least could someone tell me how to launch it in a window?

[SOLVED] Fedora 16 Virtual Box Additions Screen resolution (new issue).
location: linuxquestions.com - date: February 13, 2012
Hello, I'm having an issue with my Fedora 16 VM. I am currently preparing for my Linux + certification and am running a couple different Fedora VMs.
On my laptop, I am running Fedora 13 in Virtual Box. Once I initially installed it and installed guest additions, I had to us this solution to obtain my proper screen resolution.
Later on, at home, I went to install Fedora 16 (newest version) on my gaming desktop at home. Again, after installing the guest additions, I edited the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file to include my needed resolution (1600x900).
Once I change the configuration file and reboot, after fedora loads the kernel, before loading the GUI, I get several lines of error code (referencing Guest Additions) and the system halts and doesn't boot. I have tried several times and continue to get the same issue.
So the solution works in Fedora 13, but I can not get it to work in 16. Does anybody have any suggestions? Had this problem? I will post a screen shot in a moment.

[SOLVED] Screen resolution settings higher than 800x600 with Ubuntu 10.04 inside Virtual PC
location: linuxquestions.com - date: October 3, 2010
This is my first posting as a Linux Newbie. I have installed Ubuntu 10.04 inside of a MS Virtual PC on my Vista machine. Everything seems to work beautifully and is stable. However, I would like to use a resolution higher than the current maximum of 800x600. I've poked around on the web and have tried various tips. I tried using the xrandr options which added a higher resolution mode, but when I would try to set the output to that resolution, I would get an error message to the effect that I could not exceed the current maximum of 800x600.
I tried to cobble parameter values together and create an xorg.conf file, but every iteration seems to produce a bunch of colorful vertical bars within my Virtual PC window, and I would have to blow away that virtual PC setup and rebuild it (along with reinstalling Ubuntu).
As I said, 800x600 is not a show stopper, but I would like to take advantage of the real estate I have with my display. These "fifty-five year old&q
