[SOLVED] What port/ports does Centos use when checking for updates on the internet?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: November 7, 2008
What ports on my Centos 4.5 linux pc need to be active for when
Yum, or whatever 'os updater' is active ? I receive the 'panel icon'
change telling me that I have x amount of updates available for my system.
Problem is, once I acknowledge the prompt to retrieve my updates,
after a period of time, it times out.
So, my actual question is what are the actual ports used for the total
process of checking for updates, and the ones actually used when retrieving
the updates? What all has to be available from my pc?
I need to configure my firewall for this to take place again. It was working when
Centos was first installed, after the 1st upgrade took place, now it stalls..

[SOLVED] Had to clean up Fedora 20 repos, anything missing?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: December 7, 2013
I had some issues with errors when I did `yum update` I did get things cleaned up and working well but I want to make sure I have all the Fedora 20 repos, seems like something is missing. I am leaving out the third party repos for this post. So that leaves two for Fedora 20. Isn't there suppose to be three or four? Testing and Security or something like that? For some reason I keep mentally flashing to Debian sources.list and annoying myself, this is not Debian, lol.
>/etc/yum.repos.d

How do I determine what display manager I'm using?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: January 26, 2014
I have Mint 16 installed and want to change my login theme. From what I've read, Mint 16 is supposed to have MDM (Mint Desktop Manager) running. If I go to a terminal and run mdmsetup it says that MDM is not installed but doesn't tell me what display manager is.
I, hopefully, have attached a picture of the error message. I get the same message whether I use sudo or not.
Is there a command that will tell me what display manager I'm using?
[SOLVED] Apache 2.4.10 Fedora 20 Virtualhost not accepting SSL
location: linuxquestions.com - date: September 10, 2014
Hi.
I'm playing with Apache on Fedora 20, which comes with v2.4.10. I've got the server up and running just fine and the default site works with and without SSL.
Now, I want to set up a Virtualhost. This Virtualhost works fine. But when I go to set it up for SSL, I get no config errors or any feedback and the default site appears under https.
Here's my virtualhost:
http://pastebin.com/LQyMcq2d
Any ideas about what I'm doing wrong?
TIA.
[SOLVED] Video Converter with tools, Fedora 20
location: linuxquestions.com - date: July 7, 2014
Hi:
I'm looking for a video converter.
I tried to install Handbrake but yum said it's not available and nothing to do.
I also looked at winff but wasn't sure if it would allow me to take things out of videos.
I installed the codec for Fedora and gstreamer and the plugins along with ffmpeg so that's done.
I read online that all you really need is ffmpeg but isn't that only funtional through cmd-line only?
Could you make a few recommendations?
Thanks:-

location: linuxquestions.com - date: August 9, 2014
Hello,
Trying to install kali-linux on a usb using unetbootin on Fedora 20. However after I launch the application trough the terminal the progress bar hangs at 10%, and by checking the information in the terminal I see these errors.
Qt: Session management error: None of the authentication protocols specified are supported
Error creating proxy: The connection is closed (g-io-error-quark, 18)
Any idea as to why this is happening and/or how to fix it?
Thank you
