Can't boot after installing Ubuntu 12.04 on my notebook
location: linuxexchange.com - date: May 8, 2012
I installed Ubuntu 12.04 on my notebook but I can't boot.
The status is a black screen and no key works.
Strangely, I can boot the Ubuntu as a next method:
Plug USB stick (install program)
Boot sequence changes (HDD → USB)
USB lamp blinks and stops
Booting from HDD
Why can't I boot without USB stick?

GRUB error 21 when trying to boot XP after installing Ubuntu 7.04 on seperate hdd
location: linuxquestions.com - date: May 7, 2007
Hi,
I'm a complete linux newbie and i think i messed up my laptop trying to install Ubuntu 7.04 from the live cd.
I reciently found my iRiver H320 so i decided to format it(as an external 20gb hdd) and install linux on it so i could play around with linux and see what it was like. i figured that installing it on this would not affect my windows xp install as it was on a seperate hdd and therefor would not touch my internal hdd.
I was wrong!!!!
After installing ubuntu on the external hdd i restarted my laptop. i changed the boot sequence so it would load from the external hdd......it said cannot load operating system(i'm presuming this is because my iRiver is set up as an mp3 player or something).
thats not the main problem tho.... i unplugged the external hdd and restarted my laptop, changing the boot sequence back to my internal hdd.
when it went to try boot it said
GRUB loading Stage 1.5
Grub loading, please wait....
Error 21_
it wont allow me press any buttons
[SOLVED] problem in booting windows 7 after installing fedora 11 while try to make dual boot
location: linuxquestions.com - date: February 21, 2010
Hi,
Box: Intel pentium 2.66 ghz
2 gb ram
I have 3 separate hard disk (hd) as below-
1. PATA hd 40 gb - unallocated
2. SATA hd 500 gb 2 Partitions- Part1 240 gb OS -Windows 7 ultimate, Part2 unallocated
3. SATA hd 160 gb 2 partitions - part1 120 gb OS -root of fedora 11, part2 rest in swap
-I first installed win7 on disk 2(500 gb) partition 1(240 gb) and it worked ok, (to prevent win7 to create 100 mb "system reserved" partition i partitioned all my hard disk before installing win7)
-then i install fedora 11 on disk 3(160 gb) allocating 120 gb for root and rest 4 gb for swap.
during fedora installation when asked for putting bootloader Grub i choose "First sector of boot partition". it created menu with "Fedora" and "Other" which i change label to "Windows 7"
my problem is when i choose "Fedora" from boot menu it work and fedora get booted but when i try to boot with windows 7 it shows blank screen

Saturday night, I installed Ubuntu 9.04 (i386) on my hard drive. It was a dual boot installation with Windows XP Pro SP3 (windows had been installed prior). The hd had 3 primary partitions and an extended partition. Ubuntu was installed on a logical drive on the extended partition (4GB of partition were devoted to swap as well). Installation went without a hitch.
I reboot and the GRUB bootloader works fine. Ubuntu boots up and everything works great. I connected to my network on Ubuntu but could not load any websites. Confused, I rebooted into Windows XP. On XP, I was unable to connect to my network.
I did a cold reboot, thinking that would solve it. All of a sudden, I ha
Unable to boot Win XP after installing Ubuntu 10.04. Please someone help!!!
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: July 22, 2010
First of all, I am new to Ubuntu. It is a great experience. Linux rocks...
I installed Ubuntu 9.10 on my second hard disk(80GB). My first hard disk(40GB) already hosts my Windows XP on the C: partition and also the IBM factory recovery image for XP on another partition. (My system is nearly 6 years old).
First I was able to boot to XP(through GRUB, which was installed by default).
Then I upgraded to Ubuntu 10.04 directly through internet from the Ubuntu 9.10. The grub was also automatically upgraded and it shows my XP and recovery OS as well perfectly.
But when i select XP or the recovery, the OS doesn't boot and only a cursor is blinking for eternity. The processor is working heavily(which i can make out from the deafening fan speed). And all left for my option is switching off directly. But booting ubuntu causes no problem.
Now, i want to solve this problem and without losing any valuable data that i have in that hard-disk.
Please help friends... My only hope lies with you...

Windows XP does not boot after installing LXLE 14.04 in DualBoot
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: January 18, 2015
(LXLE 14.04 -> LUbuntu LTS 14.04)
Hello,
A few days ago I found out that Windows 7 was a bit too much for one of my old computers. When searching for a replacement for Windows 7 OS I came across LXLE. I decided to try it out. As it is a Linux OS, I decided to make it dual-boot with an older Windows version, Windows XP, so that I still could play my old Windows games on the PC.
First, I installed Windows XP Home Edition. After I got that to work, I burned LXLE 14.04 (64-bit) onto a disk and installed that. It recognized the Windows OS and as selected it set up a dual-boot for me. I could set sizes for partitions in the installer and everything seemed fine. After installation, I restarted the computer and checked if all OSes were working. LXLE worked fine, yet I was not able to boot into Windows XP. It just showed a black screen with a flashing white stripe at the upper left. Normally you would see that for a few seconds before your OS would boot, nothing else happened though.
Boo
