ssh D tunnel not working under Ubuntu, but does work in Putty?!
- date: September 1, 2010
I have the following ssh command I use to setup a tunnel for port 8080 so that I can bypass some work firewalls for checking out some gaming sites (mind you I am the system admin here):
ssh -C -D 8080 [email protected]
Using Foxyproxy I can not use this tunnel.
However, when setting it up under Windows with the exact same configuration it DOES work. Thus I am thinking it is a problem on the client side, not server side..
Anybody have any ideas about this?

CD Failing to boot to Menu (but CD does work with other computers)
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: May 30, 2009
Greetings! Sorry for coming here with my problems.
Basically there is a long story which requires me to do a reformat due to broken OS, the OS is broken in that the language file broke and it had trouble rebuilding it as it just hangs. I was directed to Ubuntu by a friend as the solution of allowing me to access my harddrive through another OS without a reformat/clean install, so I plug in my external harddrive so I can back up important documents before planning to reformat it.
Anyway, what happens is this. When I put in the CD and the computer loads up the CD, then it goes to a black screen with a table in the corner full of numbers and letters which make no sense to me. If I press a key, the numbers/letters in the table change a bit the computer reboots (obviously, ends up running into same situation)
Thought it might have been the CD, so I tried it on my laptop, the CD worked brilliantly, using the try function, was able to use my external harddrive and tested backing up a file.
No mouse pointer (cursor), mouse does work
location: linuxquestions.com - date: November 17, 2005
I've got a strange problem. I have SuSE 9.3 and Windows XP installed on my pc. Now I'm trying SuSE again since a while (I do like Windows a lot :P) and at first my monitor doesn't work in graphical mode. (Solved that... (I have a dual monitor, which didn't seem to work well... ). But now I do have graphics (on a single monitor) exept for the mouse pointer. My mouse still works (I do get mouse-over effects) but I dont see a cursor/pointer. Anyone got a solution?
edit: forgot to mention: I have an Microsoft optical mouse, connected by USB.
What I already tried:
- Use the control center to change the mouce cursor theme
- Try another USB port
howto: Mustek 1200 UB PLUS does work with linux !
location: linuxquestions.com - date: May 7, 2004
hey guys, after a year or so using linux,
i finaly got my mustel 1200 UB plus scanner working in linux.
even though many other sites i have read say that the mustek driver
will NOT work for this scanner.
since i found hundreds of posts around the internet asking how to do it,
and ending with some one forwarding a link to some sane site saying this scanner isnt suported, i thought i should post my sucess story.. seeing as it seems to be the only one.
i use fedora core 1, but i suppose this should work on any distro right ?
u need to have the following installed...
libusb (im using version 0.1.7-3)
sane-backends (im using 1.0.12-4)
xsane (im using 0.91-1)
you need the following kernel modules loaded
(to see loaded kernel modules, become root (su -) and type lsmod)
if you are missing one, you can load it as root (su -) with the command
you ALSO need the CD disk that came with your scanner.
Apache does not work on Opensuse
location: linux.com - date: April 15, 2012
I am using Opensuse for the first time.
I installed Apache via Yast, and when I went to tape (after I started apache server): http://localhost this error message is shown:
"You don't have permission to access the requested directory. There is either no index document or the directory is read-protected. "
Can you tell me why it does not work ?
Suspend does not work on XBMCbuntu
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: February 25, 2013
I'm using XBMCbuntu (Frodo) which sets up on a Ubuntu 12.10. Unfortunately suspend does not work for me an the guide here did not help.
My hardware is a "Zotac ID41" with Suspend S3 enabled in BIOS.
When I try a suspend from GUI the screen gets black for a second and then system show up again. When I enter "pm-suspend" on terminal just nothing happens.
Here are some log files:

- syslog for PM: http://pastebin.com/ZLkbg8Bx
- lspci VGA: http://pastebin.com/dNx60ySj

Has anyone an idea what I could do to get suspend working?

Does any Linux distro work with the Llano AMD APU?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: January 28, 2012
I have a Samsung laptop with the 64 Bit AMD A6-3420M APU / Radeon graphics quad core. I have tried several popular distributions, and they ALL result in a blank screen very soon in the installation sequence. Operations continue, but there is no video. In fact, none of the live CDs will even boot fully, with the exception of Ubuntu Precise. I have tried to install Precise to the hard drive, but it eventually dies during file copying, sometimes going back to the live desktop with no error message. I know these APUs have been a challenge, but I've seen benchmarks where Linux has been used with them. The Samsung model number is 305E5A-A03. Thanks in advance.

location: linuxquestions.com - date: September 24, 2011
I have cheap Defender game pad, but it works nicely in every native linux application I have tried.
Problems starts when I try to use it with wine, if I do that, every button except up, down and right directions work even left direction works!
