How to get mkbootimg for Android kernel development for Sony Xperia ZR?
location: linuxexchange.com - date: February 3, 2014
I recently got the kernel to compile under Ubuntu (see my answer on Askubuntu for details) but noted that the ~/10.4.B.0.569/kernel/README_Xperia file mentions some prerequisites such as
* ramdisk.img - root fs
* mkbootimg - boot.img generator
to be required as well. And while I have seen some guides about how to create the ramdisk.img, I haven't found how to obtain the mkbootimg for the Sony Xperia ZR kernel.
Any pointers are appreciated, thank you!
EDIT
Here is a somewhat old (2011) Sony tutorial on how to build kernels, unfortunately this also doesn't explain how to get ramdisk.img. For mkbootimg, it says:
Now that we have all the parts we need to create a flashable file. The
next stop is to package the parts. To do this, you’ll need the program
mkbootimg, which is part of the standard Android tree. If you don’t feel
like compiling all of Android to get this tool, it is available to
download from various trusted sites on the Internet.

VMWare Workstation on Ubuntu how much hardware required?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: January 1, 2008
Perhaps this should be under hardware it is not a hardware "problem" exactly...
I am back on an old kick of running Windoze in a VM on a Linux box. Started a few years ago but did not have the time to do too much. In a nutshell I have an evaluation copy of VMware workstation which I successfully installed on Ubuntu 6.10 (don't ask about installing on Fedora 7 - my first attempt). I successfully installed Win XP Pro and Win Vista Ultimate (bloat). They each seem to run and can access the network, Internet etc.
I decided to see if I could run both at once. Memory utilization was low ~400 MB per the Ubuntu system monitor. CPU utilization ran high but not always pegged at 100%. However, the hard drive light came on and stayed on and on and I decided to shut down the XP machine. And the light stayed on and on and on... Finally got both VMs shut down after about 15 minutes.
So I am thinking that perhaps I need a 15K rpm SCSI drive or two to build a decent performin
How much swap space
location: linuxquestions.com - date: February 24, 2007
This will probably sound like a silly question but...
How much swap space do I really need?
Does it help to have more two or three swap partitions?
Does it help to have one really large swap partition-say 10-20 GB?
I'm probably going to be using a 250 GB hard drive so space won't be an issue.

How much swap space for 4GB RAM?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: January 27, 2011
I've heard various things, from needing double the RAM you have to almost nothing.
I do want the ability to suspend/hibernate, so I guess I need 4GB. But do I really need double my RAM?
Thanks.

How much memory required for 8.04?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: June 1, 2008
I will be installing Ubuntu 8.04 on one of my laptops and would like to know what the optimum (not minimum) amount of memory should be?
Going forward I plan on using this as my main OS and want to insure that I have enough memory for the future.
Thanks!.....
[SOLVED] How much space for a full install plus a few extras.
location: linuxquestions.com - date: August 31, 2013
I know this is a bit of an open-ended question but I am considering dual booting Debian and Slackware again (I have a long term plan to migrate to Slackware when I can wean myself off dependency-resolving package management). My Debian install is taking 27.6GB of the 60GB SSD I want to use for / -- that leaves, according to conky, 24.5GB free. Is a 20GB partition for / likely to be enough for a multilib install of Slackware plus about another 500MB of third-party software? My Debian install is quite bloated due to my having installed KDE, Gnome, Enlightenment and a good many other DEs and WMs as well as the XFCE I use so I can, if needed, shrink my Debian install but do I need to?
How to know how much ram linux programs are using?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: January 5, 2012
I was going to buy a new laptop but that seems daft considering I don't have enough money to buy a good laptop and my old laptop works perfectly (despite being 6 years old).
My HP Compaq nx6325 has 1gb of ram. For a small amount I can upgrade to 2gb but I want to know how much ram certain programs use whilst being run to see if it's worth it buying.
I'd like to use screen recorder app (that i got from ubunto center) but that seems very laggy and I'm not 100% sure if it's due to the lack of video ram (only 128mb) or the fact that the programs been used along side screen recorder are taking to big a bite out of my 1gb ram.
How much RAM will I have if I install 32bit instead of 64bit
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: October 15, 2010
Hello
Right now I have 64-bit version of Ubuntu, but there are some applications I often use that refuse to work on 64-bit architecture. Also my system is old and I got some trash around, so my best idea to cope with these 2 problems is install all from scratch. I have 4GB RAM.
How much RAM will I lose after installing the newest Ubuntu/Kubuntu 32-bit version, if any?
I searched for answer a lot. I found numerous threads about it, but all of them contained answers like "it depends", "if", "maybe", or just explanations hard enough for me to get lost fast (I'm a user, I don't know how things work, I need them to work).
If I have to provide you some info about my hardware configuration, I gladly will. Just let me know what you need to give me an exact answer (if this is at all possible). I'll be very grateful. I need every bit of my RAM, I abuse it.
Thank you in advance.
please wait...
