How much space left
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: August 23, 2011
Hey. I'm using ubuntu 11.10, and I really like it.
Installed it the other day after I have now been using wubi fro about a month now.
But I have a question.
In Windows, i can easily see how much space there is left and used on each of my disks. How do I check the size here in ubuntu?
I tried to view the files in list with details but the size doesn't say anything at all.
I assume that's one of these bugs I've heard of. You know, when they say windows has viruses and linux has bugs.
So, how do I fix that bug, and is there a way I can see the size used and left?
How much can a cassette tape hold in data storage terms?

Cassettes used to be used for data storage. How much could today's cassette tapes hold, the ones you buy in stores that you can write over. How much is on one of them?

location: ubuntuforums.com - date: January 15, 2010
I want to see the sistem resources used by a console application. For example I wish to know how much cpu and ram was used for compressing some images like:
zip -0 -o a.zip *.jpg
I tried with time and ps but I ended doing nothing.
I used the example from man page
time -f "%E real,%U user,%S sys" ls -Fs
but i got
-f: command not found
Any help is good.
Thinking about Project How much Proficiency in Java needed?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: February 6, 2012
Hope this ist not too noob-ish a question, but seeing how Java is becoming more and more interesting for me to learn (Minecraft Mods, Android Scripts & Apps, Browser Games, cross-platform compatibility), I am considering reviving an old project of mine I began in Python in Java.
Now, I somewhat came to detest the language (was forced to begin learning it in school from a horrible teacher - forgot everything), so I'd have quite some inner resistance to overcome. Thus, I need an achievable motivator, and I'd like to know if said project could serve as one or if I should better start out aiming lower, or if Java is even completely unsuited for that.
[There is a TL;DR version at the bottom. Sorry for not being briefer, but I'd like to give a complete outline of the situation, as only with all the information you can judge properly.]
I should probably mention my experience to set the background:
- ASM. *cough*
- BASIC. Forget what I said. (I was 9 and didn't know...)
- C. Well,
How much RAM really needed to install Fedora?
location: linux.com - date: March 28, 2010
Since Fedora 10 it requires something more than the 390MB that my machine is maxed out with, and the still-used boilerplate Release Notes lie:
188.8.131.52.1. Processor and memory
Minimum RAM for graphical: 192MiB
Recommended RAM for graphical: 256MiB
Just how much are Chromebooks based on Linux?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: January 4, 2014
So I understand the fact that the Chrome OS is based on Linux but by how much?
With the rise of Chromebooks, viruses, maleware, hackers, and spywares will likely increase. Also, what about Android?
That being said, wouldn't that make Linux users with various distros vulnerable?
I also understand that Linux OS' make up a real small fraction of the desktop OS market share (which is less than 2%)
This is more of a discussion than a required question and answer. So I'm open to what you guys have in mind.
How do I tell how much memory I have available?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: September 1, 2006
I am working in an Oracle environment on an 8 GB system running Redhat 4.0 U3 (32-bit) with the U4 kernel. I am using 1.4 GB of hugepages and I have a ramdisk /dev/shm that is 1.2 GB in size for Oracle indirect data buffers.
When I run free, it tells me that I am using 2053960 of RAM and I have 6265372 available.
total used free shared buffers cached
Mem: 8308332 8273268 35064 0 124632 6094676
-/+ buffers/cache: 2053960 6254372
Swap: 5245096 50304 5194792
I can see from ipcs -m that I am using 1.4 GB of shared memory (in hugepages).

So, I have two questions.
1. Is there a bug in free? Why is sh
linux as software raid layer between hardware and win 7 how much overhead?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: December 13, 2011
I had this idea that 1) SSDs rock 2) they're very expensive 3) people give away their old USB flash drives like candy at halloween and 4) these could be combined in a RAID 5 to get performance much better than a HDD and have superior reliability. Low cost, high performance, reliable. Win, win, win. Problem is, I use Win 7, and it doesn't support software RAID 5. "What are you doing here" you ask. I'm getting to that.
My idea is to use Linux running Virtual PC as a (thin as possible) software RAID layer between the actual hardware and a Win 7 VM. I'd set it up to just automatically boot to an x window session as the root user and run the VM fullscreen. Seems like I'd have to have a lot running to get this to work though - Linux, mdadm, x windows, networking, more(?) - and I have no idea what the overhead would actually be or if it'd actually be worth it in the end.
Ideally the Linux install would be as minimalistic as possible and just pass as much access to the hardw
