Wrong keyboard layout (Danish Macintosh)
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: September 2, 2011
I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 in a Virtual Machine on a Mac and I'm struggling with the keyboard layout called "Macintosh Danish".
I've tried every possible layout that has anything to do with danish and apple/mac within the keyboard settings but all the layouts are more like a danish windows-keyboard.
The danish keyboard layout on a Mac looks like this:
If you try to add the danish keyboard on your own system the differences should be obvious (i.e. "$")
A keys like "\" are accessed by alt+shift+7 and {} are accessed by alt+shift 8 and 9.
Is there any way to fix this without needing to spend three days learning to manually remap the layout?
Thanks
[SOLVED] Switching workspaces in xmonad using programmer dvorak keyboard layout
location: linuxquestions.com - date: March 23, 2012
I'm playing around with xmonad, and I haven't had much trouble with it except for switching workspaces. Pressing the indicated key combinations (mod+number) appear to do nothing. I am using the programmer dvorak keyboard layout, which has the numbers shifted. I assume this is what is causing the problem, but I have only just begun learning Haskell, so the config file is still mysterious to me. Any help in resolving this will be appreciated.
Change Keyboard Layout on Server Permanently
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: June 29, 2011
Hi all
whenever I reboot my server they keyboard layout is reset to US layout.
I tried editing /etc/default/keyboard but to no avail...
dpkg-reconfigure console-data will correct the layout, but only until I restart.
This is on Ubuntu Server 11.04 with home dirs encrypted.
already tried this:

XFCE: how to change the keyboard layout?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: May 11, 2005
Hi!
I am using Slackware 10.1 and XFCE and I love it. The only thing to bother is that I don't know how to change the keyboard layout (i am using a german keyboard). The strange thing is, that when I exit XFCE, I am able to use the german keyboard in the konsole. So it is just XFCE where I can not use the german keyboard. I have been asked about the keyboard layout during the installation, and i have chosen the german keyboard. So please, help me, how can I use a german keyboard layout with XFCE? I have tried to go to Settings --> Keyboard, but there is just the options Default and Emacs. What file do I have to edit in order to gain support for my german keyboard in XFCE?
Thanks for any help!

VMware ubuntu keyboard layout
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: June 30, 2012
Hello everybody. I'm a new user of ubuntu/linux and I start by installing ubuntu on a VMware, everything looks very much ok, but the keyboard layout I added - norwegian, still doesn't work. I've done everything by the book, I have the icon, the keyboard shortcut is not working either which is ok because I can still swap the keyboard layout with the mouse by clicking the icon, still no norwegian letters. I've tried to google it but found nothing to help me out. Tried with russian layout, but still not working. Thanks
Custom keyboard layout (xmodmap) in Virtualbox suddenly broken
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: October 15, 2009
Hi,
I am using a modified dvorak layout, with the help of a .xmodmap file which took years (literally) to make and fine-tune. I use Ubuntu as my main and only OS. However, I recently got a job/deal for which I NEED to run Microsoft Office 2007, and it has proved most convenient to run it in XP in VirtualBox. It has been working perfectly for a few weeks now (and I got a lot of work done thanks to it, too ツ)
Occasionally, however, the guest system has started to ignore some of the keys (most that differ from default dvorak, although some have stayed, e.g., the Super modifier), but started working later (either by re-loading the xmodmap file, rebooting either OS or saving&restoring the virtual machine state. Now, however, it has happened again and doesn't seem to want to get better no matter what I do.
I believe it has some connection with XP's own keyboard layout, as it is the keys that the default layout doesn't have that don't work, with the exception of modifiers (which
xfce keyboard layout problem
location: linuxquestions.com - date: April 9, 2010
Hello,
Hardware and software: an old P3 "unbranded" laptop running Slackware 13
Me: linux newbie
During the installation, the setup notified me that I'm using a different keyboard layout, so I conducted some tests and finally found the keyboard match as QWERTZ/de_CH-latin1.map.
After finishing the installation I could login and use the system prety nice in text mode, but in XFCE GUI the keyboard map is set to default US.
I've found an old topic about a very similar problem here:
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...layout-322374/
Unfortunately the solution founded there doesn't work for me.. it seems that editing /etc/X11/xorg.conf or running xorgsetup doesn't have an effect in my xfce.
The only thing that works is setxkbmap command and GUI wizards.
To complicate things, the laptop physical keyboard layout has a key named "Alt GR" which allows me to type a 3rd character on some keys, for instance on key 3:
Key 3 only shows character: 3
Shif + key
