location: linuxquestions.com - date: August 15, 2007
Hello, I have been running Linux for a few weeks now and so far i am loving it. This also means that i have really no idea what i am doing.
I have an ATI TV Wonder 550, left over from when i was running windoze, and i was wondering if anyone else has gotten this card to work with ubuntu feisty. So far i have had no luck finding support for it. If anyone has any ideas i would appreciate it.

Anyone used this card with 11.04 yet? I'm curious if the proprietary drivers can be installed without trouble and if Unity works with it.
[SOLVED] 550 create directory operation failed in vsftpd
location: linuxquestions.com - date: January 8, 2012
I have established vsftpd in my rhel6 64 bit linux box and want to allow only anonymous login not local user. When i successfully login and try to make a directory (mkdir prabhat). it says "550 Create directory operation failed".
I have also change permission of /var/ftp
- chmod o+w /vat/ftp -
and also allow selinux
- setsebool -P ftp_home_dir=1
My vsftpd version is "vsftpd-2.2.2-6.el6.x86_64" and here is my vsftpd conf file: -
- local_enable=NO (I have disabled local enable)
- #local umask=022 (I have commented local umask)

I've got that vsftpd running on a ubuntu 9.10 machine.
Although I cannot upload any file, I always get a

Epson Stylus SX125 ink level
location: linux.com - date: May 19, 2011
Since i could not find any help googling (both escputils and mtink fail trying to read the ink level in the above printer) i wrote to Avasys, the company which distributes the linux driver, and received the following answer:
Thank you for visiting the AVASYS website and sending us your query.
===== Question =====
none of the programs (escputil, mtink) can check the ink level,
i wonder why if it is possible for windows it is not possible for linux!
===== Answer =====
We have not confirmed whether we get the status of the ink levels
by using escputil or mtink with drivers on our download page.
Unfortunately, the driver you mentioned does not support the function,
that is to get the status of ink levels, etc.
However, for your information, an old driver downloadable
from our download site may enable you to use the function.
You can download the necessary packages from our download site:

VSFTPD keeps giving me 550 Permission Denied
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: June 19, 2008
I just installed VSFTPD and made a user named ftpadmin.
I made the home folder for ftpadmin /var/www
I also gave ftpadmin ownership of /var/www
No matter what I do, I can't delete, add, or do anything in any directory even though when I log in, it goes there.
What am I doing wrong?
vsftpd chroot, creates 550 error on CHMOD command
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: July 14, 2010
I've been searching the web, without finding any sollution to my problem.
vsFTPd is acting really weird. I've never seen this problem before, and I've been using vsftpd for some years now.
Well.. The thing is, I've made a user that chroots to the folder /var/www on my server. And when I then try to chmod the file /var/www/htdocs/testsite/index.html through my ftp-client, I only get the error "550 SITE CHMOD command failed.", and when I then check in my /var/log/vsftpd.log it says
FAIL CHMOD: Client "192.168.50.58", "/htdocs/testsite/index.html 777"
Which I think would mean that it tries to chmod the file "/htdocs/testsite/index.html" instead of chmod the file "/var/www/htdocs/testsite/index.html" as the user is chrooted to the folder /var/log.
Are there any explanation for this, and maybe even an easy solution?
vsftp gives error 550 access denied on file upload
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: November 15, 2008
I think I put this in the correct category...
Anyhow, I installed a new Ubuntu Server 8.10 yesterday, installed vsftp and configured it up, at this time the server was on the same local network as the computer I was using for testing.
Everything worked fine, SSH, web site and ftp.
Today the server moved in at my friends house (because he's got a faster net )
Now I get Error 550 Access Denied everytime I try to upload anything via ftp, I did exactly the same as I did at home, only difference is I have a firewall in between now.
My Firewall is a Microsoft ISA Server, so I started the the logger and tried to upload something.
What was strange is that the ftp server sent a request on a random port in the 12000-12999 range to my IP, which of course got blocked at the firewall. So I just made a new server rule opening the 12000-12999 range into my computer running the ftp client. Still nothing.
I started the logger in the ISA again and got very surprised that it was now tr

I'm a Linux newbie and am having difficulties. Setting up my LAMP server properly. Apache, PHP, phpmyadmin and Mysql are working fine.
It’s the FTP part of the setup that has been giving me headaches for days now. This is what I have done up until now.
In my home dir I have created a folder named "/www" and via the bind command I have redirected this folder to "/var/www"
"$sudo mount --bind /var/www/ /home/<user>/www"
This works fine when my user logs on to de ftp server, the user is able to access all of the files in the home dir and the "/www" folder which redirects to
Ok guys get ready this is where it gets difficult
When I access the "www" folder and try to change the file permissions on one of the files in this folder. I get the following error message:
"Response: 550 site CHMOD command failed"
***note I'm trying to change the permissions to 755 because, of oscommerce the fin
default proftpd install, 550 on upload, rename or mkdir
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: July 27, 2010
this is probably easy, but cant figure it out.
I just did a fresh install of proftpd using apt-get, now when i log in to the server with ANY user, I get a 550 error whenever I try to upload, rename a file or create a directory.
where should i look to change the permissions? is that a normal behavior for a brand new install?
