SSH to Amazon EC2
location: linuxquestions.com - date: July 22, 2011
I am wondering if anyone has any experience with SSHing to Amazon's EC2 site. Has anybody used this site and have any opinions on the reliability, security and real world usefulness of this site for running a cloud?
SSH] Server Version OpenSSH_5.3
[SSH] FAIL: Permission denied (publickey,gssapi-keyex,gssapi-with-mic).
[SSH] INFO: DISCONNECT
I get the above when I try to ZOC to an EC2 instance. I generated the key pair when the instance was created and appears to be a valid key. I am trying to do this from a windows7 box. I also tried using puTTY and got a similar result. Using puTTY Amazon says you have to convert .pem --> .ppk using puTTYgen and save the new resulting private key and use this not the .pem file for initiating the SSH session.

Any help or information on Amazon EC2 appreciated. Thanks

HOWTO: Enable and control the gnome VNC vinoserver from an SSH connection

[SOLVED] Creating Custom SSH iptable rules for use with UFW
location: linuxquestions.com - date: February 22, 2011
I'm trying to set up a firewall at the moment that allows access to my custom SSH port from only my friend's url (they have a static url but dynamic IP). I find iptables a bit of a nightmare and was hoping to use UFW for most of my day to day firewall maintenance and just make a few extra iptable rules to cover exceptional circumstances like this. Fortunately it seems UFW allows this with /etc/ufw/before.rules and /etc/ufw/after.rules.
So at the moment I'm just trying to get the basic iptables rules right. As I say I'm not very good with iptables, does this look right?
SSH: Connection Refused Ubuntu 12.04
location: linuxquestions.com - date: June 28, 2012
I'm setting up an SSH server on my home computer. I'm kind of a Linux noob (I've been using Ubuntu since Febuary or so, meaning I'm not terribly good at everything, but I know some basic stuff to try.
So, if I try to connect to the server through my laptop (also running Ubuntu 12.04), I get this error:
Trying to run X11 over ssh: "connect /tmp/.X11unix/X0: No such file or directory"
- date: May 20, 2010
I'm trying to run X11 windows over ssh but I get this error:
ssh -X -C [email protected]
Warning: No xauth data; using fake authentication data for X11 forwarding.
connect /tmp/.X11-unix/X0: No such file or directory
Error: Can't open display: localhost:10.0
I managed to connect with another computer. That computer has a /tmp/.X11-unix/X0 socket. Is there a way to create a socket on this computer?
Strange SSH behavior
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: January 23, 2011
I have 6 EC2 slices, 5 Centos and 1 Ubuntu 10.10. Yes, I'm in process of moving off of Centos to Ubuntu.
When I attempt to ssh -vvv from my laptop to the Ubuntu slice, it shows a match to my rsa key, then it progresses onward and asks for a password which is turned off. No matter how I try to connect via ssh (my private key, the creation key, etc) th e connection fails with ssh asking for a password.
The stranger part of the situation is that if I originate the ssh connection from within the Amazon cloud .. ssh works as expected.. accepting all the same keys that are rejected when originating from my laptop.
ssh connection timing out Ubuntu 10.04
- date: May 14, 2010
I've recently upgraded from Ubuntu 9.10 to Ubuntu 10.04, and having upgraded I can no longer ssh (or sftp or scp) to my university network.
Before upgrading I could ssh without any problems. On ssh-ing now I get the following message:
ssh: connect to host stargate.uclan.ac.uk port 22: Connection timed out
where sshuni is an alias for the following: ssh -Y -C [email protected]
I also had problems getting firefox working when I initially upgraded, however these were resolved by disabling IPv6. I suspect this is somehow related to my current problem but I don't know where to start trying to fix this.
Any help would be very much appreciated.
