Problem using Linux mint console at all... Need it to fix grub.
location: linuxquestions.com - date: August 13, 2013
I asked a question about fixing grub as I'd deleted a Linux partition which means I can't access windows now because I've deleted some of the grub files. I was given this link http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=622828 and told to follow those instructions however I open the console and it just says command not found when I enter the commands? I am connected to the Internet but the console just won't work.
I also see that in Linux mint now there is an application involving grub and I was wondering if it could've fixed through there?
I also wanted to know how I know for sure which partition is the windows one, I opened one "sda3" which had the windows files in, I.e. I found my user files etc. but it said that it couldn't be mounted because it was read only - is it supposed to be or do I need to change that and is that definitely the correct partition?
Please help soon, I'm very stressed out and I'm taking over the living room since in hooked directly into the r

Oh, let's see... 1961 (still in high school), IBM tabulation equipment (programming with jumper wires on phenolic boards -- large, heavy boards). 1972 Honeywell GECOS mainframe, BASIC and FORTRAN. 1975-ish Cromemco Z-80 boxes running Cromemco's version of CP/M, later running Cromemco Cromix, a Z-80 multiuser multitasking Unix look- work alike, later Cromemco dual boot systems running Z-80 Cromix and Unix System 3 (on Motorola 68030 (with separate memory manager board). Still have one of those, still works (running Unix in 1MB of RAM on a 96MB disk, too).
Later 1988-ish, Motorola 68040 Unix System 3 (system administrator and software engineer).
1990-ish, Solaris (software engineer, data base designer and developer).
Bought a Dell box with Win98 and about 1997-ish (do not remember these dates), installed Slackware 3.x (I'm pretty sure) and dual-booted; Win98 rapidly got set aside and ultimately trashed altogether.
Series of Dells since, all Slackware, up to Slackware 64-bit 14.1 on m

Problem using yum to update iptables and other software on Red Hat 7.3
- date: September 17, 2004
I've now posted this question onto the 'Fedora' forum instead of 'Red Hat', as it probably belongs better there than here (since it involves yum and the Fedora Legacy repositories).
I have installed Red Hat Linux 7.3 on an old 166MHz Toshiba 460CDT
laptop with only 32MB RAM (I tried Fedora Core 1, but the install wouldn't
even start!). I am now trying to update the software using yum, and the
Fedoralegacy repositories (or mirrors). Straight away, I am running into a
problem with yum update. If I try to run yum update, I get a message telling me that 'package iptables
needs kernel that has been excluded', as follows:
etc]# yum update
Gathering package information from servers
Getting headers from: Red Hat Linux 7.3 base

I had some exposure to IBM DOS/360 systems in the late '60s (I was a young kid) and early '70s (Junior High, High School), KIM1 microprocessors and DEC PDP 9 through 11 minicomputer (remember that term?) systems in the mid to late '70s when I was at University. A friend of mine built an Altair 8800 from a kit.
In the late '70s I learned how to program in FORTRAN, COBOL, PL/1, and IBM 370 architecture assembly language. I played around a bit with 6502 and 6800 architectures (Apple). But Apple didn't really strike a chord with me. I bought my first 256K RAM IBM PC in 1984. I stuck with IBM compatible systems from that day on. I explored every flavor of IBM and MS and DR DOS, and CP/M and MP/M through the '80s and '90s, and all the MS Windows and IBM OS/2 variants through the late '80s / '90s, and the Windows Millennium, 2000, and XP versions through 2005. I still have Windows 2.1 and OS/2 1.2 Beta diskettes in a box somewhere.
I bought a retail box version of Red Hat Linux in t

13.10 How to get into Unity Session ?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: February 6, 2014
I was just installing unity desktop via terminal command's
sudo apt-get install unity
and downloaded the rest of 56,7 mb of archives.
Well, I got no problem when it was downloading and installing via terminal.
It was finished, but, when I was logging out my xubuntu session and trying to log in again to unity
I got no Unity or Unity 2D Session from the setting button on the top right side of the screen.
How can I get logged into Unity Session for this 13.10 Xubuntu ?
Thanks a lot for the help and the answer.
