Problem Faxing from SuSE 10.2
location: linuxquestions.com - date: March 1, 2007
invited to by JZL240I-U I start a new thread on this topic since I extensively have tried to fax from this dist for some months now without any success.
My modem is an external Robotics 56k v 92 Faxmodem that works exellently from W2000 and WXPsp2.
I've tried several Forum threads, the last two:
http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Setting_u...r_with_Hylafax Didn't work
http://www.easylinux.de/pipermail/su...ry/017453.html That didn't work either!
To be short in the start of this thread I refer to the last link above:
-I simply want to send fax from OpenOfficeWriter.
I followed the last thread installing the package yast2-phone-services, configured the Fax in Yast, installed a PDF-converter under /usr/lib/000-2.0/program/spadmin.bin, Standard-driver, Commandline: "kprinter".
-From OO.orgWriter i then run File->Print->PDF-converter and kprinter starts up. It seems to convert the document well to a temporary file. After adding faxnumber (cannot
10.10 and vmware 7.0 problem installing vmwaretools
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: December 12, 2010
I'm trying to virtualize 10.10 on vmworkstation 7.0.0 build-203739.
10.10 is up and running allright, but I'm having a problem installing vmware-tools.
During vmware-config-tools.pl I run into an error indicating vm can't find a valid kernel header path...
Would you like to change it? [yes]
Now I've installed the headers, but when I look inside:
I find a broken link:
source -> /build/buildd/linux-2.6.35
Whatever I try to enter as a kernel header path is not accepted.
Anybody know how to work around this?
Thanks a lot!
Ubuntu 9.10 wallpaper or graphics card problem
location: linuxquestions.com - date: November 2, 2009
I have been reading the latest posts related to Ubuntu 9.10 and its error with graphics cards.
I have an ATI Radeon 9200 SE win 128 MB RAM, and I am having a problem I have not had in previons versions of Ubuntu.
I installed the new 9.10 version from the CD formatting the partition. Everything went of in the instalation, but now when I start Ubuntu, I get it to run, and I can see both Gnome bars, but I can not see the wallpaper or the icons in the desktop, the system seems to run, but the screen can not display the wallpaper or icons. If I open some window from the menu, it also works.
Is anyone suffering these problems? Does it have anything to do with my graphics card?
Thank you all in advance,
SUSE 10.2 Hmm..(first encounters)
location: linuxquestions.com - date: November 4, 2006
Have just installed SUSE 10.2. The beta is now out, but this version is the alpha with nearly all the known annoyances fixed. This is not a real review. Its a straightforward description of my first moments with it. I have been using MEPIS 6.0 ever since my difficulties with YAST and SUSE 10.1. This was supposed to be a return peek at SUSE, looking for that rock-solid industrial strength stable distro, fast, easy to use, etc.
So maybe I getting harder to please, but..
1. That evil - looking green creature - the Feng Shui is just terrible. Its hard enough that SUSE/Novell are wedded to its iconic brand recognition. I could never have it on any desktop at that magnification, but I allow that this is a personal preference. Even so, if were to take a poll of "cutest most appealing logo" would the gekko score real high?
2. Click the gekko menu symbol, and be treated to a horizontally tabbed version of Microsoft's XP "start" switch. I use Windows. There are some gr

Hi! This is my first time installing or using anything linux related and I'm having a problem installing the thing.
Used both a USB (Unetbootin) and a CD to install but neither works and both give me the same error:

[SOLVED] Ubuntu 10.04 Server RAID1 installation problem
location: linuxquestions.com - date: December 30, 2010
I'm trying to install a box with Ubuntu 10.04 LTS server with a typical LAMP system in order to replace my old Ubuntu 8.04 server I have at my school to have a "backup" system and also trying to replace NIS authentication with LDAP. Well I'm getting stuck on the first step: installation of base system.
I want to build a RAID-1 system with the two 320GB SATA HD's the machine has, I have a little experience in installing RAID because I installed my old 8.04 server with RAID-1 aswell.
I boot my box from an USB stick with Ubuntu 10.04 Server 64bit, the systems boots well, asks me about language, keyboard and so, finds the two NIC cards and the DHCP configuration of one of the card is done. Then it starts the partitioner.
One of the HD's already contains three partitions with an installation of a regional flavour of Ubuntu, the other HD only contains a partition for backups, I don't want to preserve all this stuff, so the first thing I do is to replace the parti
ubuntu 10.04 64 bits: mounting problem with disk utility
location: linuxquestions.com - date: May 15, 2010
I have an annoying problem with the Gnome disk utility.
Whenever I want to mount a file system it is mounted as a removable disk in /media.
For instance if I want to mount a raid array /dev/md0 to a mountpoint /music it is mounted as /media/music.
That's not how I want it, I want it to be mounted to the desired mountpoint which is located directly on the root.
