https over ssh problem
location: linuxquestions.com - date: May 8, 2012
I will highly appreciate if somebody could help me sort out the following issue:
The following command works normally when I run it on host1:
curl -k -d param=value https://webhost/path (-k is necessary because the webhost does not have correct certificate installed)
I receive whatever web page is returned.
If I do the following while working on host2:
ssh -f -L 14141:webhost:443 host1 -N
curl -k -d param=value https://host1:14141/path
the result is always 301 Moved Permanently.
In all other respects, ssh between host1 and host2 works flawlessly.
The desired result is that webhost thinks that http request comes from host1 which IP is whitelisted as opposed to host2. Is there a simpler way to achieve it?
Thank you for your help.
weird ssh over openvpn problem
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: February 16, 2009
I use openvpn to connect over to my firm's network. Everything worked fine until I upgraded to Intrepid. Now, I can't ssh to any of the servers, but I can do other stuff, such as ping them, browse firm's internal www pages (an exception to that being the trac system installed there). Here is the output I get from ssh:

Making default gateway address permanent in SuSe 10
location: linuxquestions.com - date: February 26, 2006
I just installed SuSe for the first time on my home network. We used it at work for a mail server, but other than manage user accounts, I didn't mess with it much. I've generally used Red Hat distros up until now.
In SuSe 10, I can't figure out how to permanantly add a default gateway through the CLI. In Red Hat, it's just a matter of adding a line to /etc/sysconfig/network or /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0, depending on the setup. Niether of these files exist in my fresh install of SuSe 10.
I've done quite a bit of Googling, and came up with two sites that said to edit etc/rc.d/rc.local in SuSe. Unfortunately, this file does not exist either. I need to know how to make the gateway permanent using the command line. Can I just create rc.local in /etc/rc.d, or is there somewhere else I should be making the default gateway address permanent?
NIS and home directories (Suse 10)
location: linuxquestions.com - date: October 18, 2005
I'm fairly new to NIS stuff, and moderate with linux.
I've set-up NIS server through the GUI in suse 10. Have pointed another workstation to it in the NIS client set-up.
When I try to log in - it says can't find the home directory.
I was under the impression that NIS server would also export the home directories, and on logging in the NIS client would automount it.
Am I just a total optimist, and actually there is more work to be done?
Also, as a PS, can a linux NIS be used for windows users to log in and have their home directories on - or do I need a windows server as well?
CIF Mount times out error 110 but able to browse via smb:/ (SUSE 10.3)
location: linuxquestions.com - date: March 22, 2008
I can access disks on a W2K3 server box from a SUSE 10.3 laptop -- works fine via smb:/ and then browse the shares. Can also read and write to the drives.
When however I try and MOUNT a drive it times out with error 110.
blackdog:~ # mount -t cifs //homeserver/I /mnt/nwdisk
mount error 110 = Connection timed out
Refer to the mount.cifs(8) manual page (e.g.man mount.cifs)
The entered password is correct and no problem with connections to the W2K3 box -- printing works fine etc etc.
Any ideas as I need the disks to be mounted so I can access them in applications such as Open Office ot The GIMP.

Trouble installing MySQL GUI apps on SUSE 10.1
location: linuxquestions.com - date: May 16, 2006
Okay, I am trying to get MySQL Administrator and MySQL Query Browser running on my newly installed SUSE 10.1. I am having serious trouble, though.
I downloaded the standard RPM package from dev.mysql.com. When I tried to install it, I get "Failed dependencies: libexpat.so.0 is needed by mysql-query-browser-1.1.18-1.i386"
I checked, this is what I have:
So, I downloaded the statically linked version, untarred it to a folder and tried to run it. It told me it couldn't find libexpat.so.0.
So, I created a symlink called "libexpat.so.0" that pointed to libexpat.so.1.5.0, and tried running it again. It fails with "mysql-query-browser: line 20: 10848 Segmentation fault $PRG-bin".
So, I went back to the site, and downloaded the source. The configure script says I don't have the expat sources. I don't see a expat-devel on the CDs, so now I'm stu
Suse 10 installation freeze with HyperThreading enabled
location: linuxquestions.com - date: November 22, 2005
I tried to install Suse 10 on Fujitsu-Siemens ScenicW computer with P IV 2,8GHz HT. After first install CD and reboot- system freezes. I tried several times always the same effect (I checked also the installation CDs at the beginning). Then I thought that maybe itís because HT is enabled Ė and after deactivation HT in BIOS everything went well- but I like HT so what I can do? I already downloaded kernel for multiprocessor platform but still the same problem- when I am enabling HT in Bios Suse doesnít start (freeze at the beginning). I have seen already several posts about Suse 10 freezing after first CD- maybe problem is with HT support? Please help.
