General Opinion Poll On SUSE 10.1
location: linuxquestions.com - date: May 20, 2006
I know that many have voiced their opinion on the new release of SUSE, but there is no formal poll yet that I know of regarding this. The general response that I have heard has been disappointing and underwhelming, so I just thought I'd ask the community here.
Please feel free to voice your constructive, non-flaming views and experiences with the release in this thread.

Inspiron 6000+SuSE 10.0 successes? hardware support, 3D etc.
location: linuxquestions.com - date: November 28, 2005
Hello, I was wondering If anyone out there has tried installing SuSE 10 on a dell inspiron 6000. I'm getting one in the next couple days and just wondering if its practical to even try to run linux on it. Its the model with the ATI X300 in it. I've heard nothing but horror stories about getting 3D enabled on ATI cards which I suppose isnt a huge deal as I'm not planning to play games on it. But does not having 3D enabled limit anything else such as DVD playback or any other multi-media? Also if you've installed SUSE on it does it handle the KDE gui well speed wise? Its got a 1.6 pentium centrino and 512MB of RAM. I'm getting it as a desktop replacement, I wont be depending on the battery life much so ACPI isnt a big deal. I'll mostly just be using multi media aps like K3B, XMMS, Xine, Grip or chatting with friends. .nothing terribly demanding. Basically will I spend days just trying to get my hardware to work? I've been using Suse on and off sense 8.2 so I'm not clueless but
SuSE 10 & NVidia Graphics Drivers
location: linuxquestions.com - date: October 20, 2005
OK, so this may seem like a really stupidly easy thing to install but I've managed get to stuck somewhere and its doing my soft little head in...
I have the .run installer from the NVidia website and I'm running it in runlevel 3 so that X isnt running with the command:
sh ./Nvidia-driver-filename.run -q (This is the command that the NVidia site gives me for the installation on SuSE distros)
The installer then starts up and complains that it find/run/compile (i cant remember) a file named nvidia.ko or something and says that it needs the package 'kernel-source' to be installed.
The problem is that 'kernal-source' is already install as I had foreseen the requirement of if and got it from the installation cds. The installer is now asking for me to specify where the kernel source files are so I can lead it straight to them but I don't know where they are.
Anyone fancy telling me?

X11vnc over SSH. problem setting up passwd for several users
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: December 3, 2013
I am using ubuntu 12.04 server. I need to allow multiple users to log in simultaneously and each one should be able to use GUI in his own account.
I've followed this thread http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=45565&page=8 for installing x11vnc and autocutsel. although x11vnc was installed through the ubuntu software center and not manually. same goes for autocutsel.
I've set the passwd using the GUI of x11vnc because I got this error:
$ vncpasswd ~/.vnc/passwd
No command 'vncpasswd' found, did you mean:
Command 'vnc4passwd' from package 'vnc4server' (universe)
vncpasswd: command not found
My problem is that when I log into other user accounts I get the same error, that vncpasswd is not found so their password cannot be set up.
Any suggestions ?
Is it safe to delete stuff in /tmp? (SUSE 10.2)
location: linuxquestions.com - date: May 13, 2007
I am doing some disk cleanup and when running baobab, I found that the /tmp directory took up around ~650 MB! I know that Linux seems to have a knack of storing important stuff everywhere and I was just wondering whether it was safe to clear out the /tmp directory considering that there is a lot of locked permissions stuff in there (owner : root)
Thanks for your help in advance ;-)
SuSE 10.0 Network Monitoring tool
location: linuxquestions.com - date: January 24, 2006
im at uni, and my internet is realy slow. i want to see if i can find out who in my house is using all the bandwidth (no one is admiting it), or wether its a virus or spyware on someone machine. i friend once showed me a network monitoring tool that displayed graphicaly all the computers on your network, and then showed there outgoing and ingoing connections with red (i think they were red) cones, with the size dictating the bandwidth usage. i cannot for the life of me remember what its called. i have XP on my pc, but network tools for that seem to limit you to just that machine, so i want to put something on my SuSE 10.0 installation on my laptop. i would like to know what this program i remember is called, or the name of another one thats equaly as good. it must show me who is using howmuch bandwith (preferably p2p networks too), and also must be easy to instal. im a complete noob with linux, so i need something easy to set up, or that comes with a installation guide. Cheers!
Suse 10.3 hangs on PentiumD 64bit 1GB Ram
location: linuxquestions.com - date: November 16, 2007
Hi! I've installed SuSE 10.3 64 bit on my new Intel-Duo 2.66Mhz 1GB RAM system. It should work fine, but sometimes, i don't know why, one or both CPUs are working 100% and the system freezes.
Sometimes i can swith to terminal 1 and kill some processes and i get the control again, but in most cases it is not possible and i have to turn off the box. I'm also using SysRq keys to Sync and Remount RO my disks when it happens, but it doesn't work always, and i get "not clean partitions"...
I'm using Ksim and KDE-System Watch to monitor my system, but i don't know how can i find the problem.
the overload cannot be because of too many programs, because mostly i just use Opera, Amarok, Kmail, Kopete, a few applets and Ktorrent or Mldonkey... It used to work with Suse 10.2 on my old P3 450Mhz and 500MB RAM !!!
Can you help?
Thanks in advance! jtm_tango
3D Desktop SUSE 10
location: linuxquestions.com - date: December 13, 2005
I downloaded and installed 3D Desktop. What do I do from here? There isn't an option for it in the KMenu, and when I type in "3ddesktop" or "3d desktop" in Run, it can't find it.
Yes, I have my nVidia drivers installed and 3d enabled.

location: linuxquestions.com - date: July 22, 2008
Hi everyone. I´m new on this forum.
Recently i add a new repository on my Suse Linux 10.1 , using Yast.
Aparently the repository is down or out of service.
I´m having problems trying to delete the source. Here is a transcription of the error :
rug failed to delete a ZYPP service:
ERROR: No es posible encontrar el servicio 'hxxp://download.opensuse.org/distribution/SL-10.1/inst-source?alias=SUSE-Linux-10.1-FTP-10.1-0-20080721-102414'
There is a method to delete the rep , on a text mode way?
Any suggestions ?
