Can not remove Synaptic Package Manager
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: June 13, 2012
I installed Synaptic last night hoping that it would assist in resolving some broken package problems that I got in trying to install Google Earth. Unfortunately, Synaptic was unable to locate and fix broken packages.
I eventually fixed the problem by running:
sudo apt-get f-install
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
I've had nothing but problems with Synaptic in my 12.04 install and had to remove it because anytime I tried to use it then my system wouldn't shut down until I pushed the power button. I removed it from 12.04 no problem. Now when I try to remove it from 12.10, I get the error below.
Maybe I should just leave well enough alone, but if there's a a way to remove Synaptic without borking my system, then I'd like to get rid of it.
I have not tried any purge commands because I figure I'll just get the same error message.
Edit: I forgot to add that I'm running 12.10 in Virtual Box.
Edit # 2: Also, when I click on Remove All, that's when I get the error message. I'll

location: ubuntuforums.com - date: October 2, 2013
I shall be grateful if someone enlightens me with the difference between ubuntu software center and synaptic package manger, which is the better of the two and how to use the synaptic package manager. I would also like to know whether installing a software with the synaptic package manager sometomes results in either incomplete files/codecs or a lot of unnecessary ones at other times..? Thanks...

Really loving these distros,,I have one question as I installed Google Chrome just to try it out,,it worked fine but I could not find the synaptic package manager to uninstall it from the deb so I just used the terminal to uninstall,,it worked fine.
But a stupid question to say the least,,where in the heck is the manager located,,i tried looking in home, and dont see it under system settings either.Taking a little getting used to this Unity top.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Can't start synaptic package manager
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: November 17, 2012
running on a usb memory stick
Several times I have used synaptic package manager in order to remove older
kernels, and it has worked every time.
I use a procedure I found on the internet.
This time synaptic package manager would not open and I got an error message.
E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem.
E: _cache->open() failed, please report.
I do not understand the message, and I do not know how to resolve it.
Thanks, if you could tell me what to do.
Remark: The error occurred after updating to the latest kernel, and I have restarted.
