Can I install Family Tree Maker 2008 using PCLinuxOS KDE 2013.07?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: November 19, 2013
I am quite new to linux, having installed it a few weeks ago. I've been researching my family history for more than 20 years and am/was using Family Tree Maker 2008 and have thousands of names in my file. Is there a way to install and/or use this FTM program on my PCLinuxOS? I so don't want to start from scratch on Gramps.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Ubuntu 13.10 beta 2, Sept 25, 2013, plus updates desktop launchers?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: October 11, 2013
I hope I'm doing this right. I did a search of the entire ubuntuforums and nothing showed up.
I'm running 13.10 beta 2 that I just installed on 10/9/13. I ran software updater afterwards and it downloaded 187mb+ if I remember correctly. Even with those updates, I didn't see how to get this to work:
I unlock/remove most everything except the top dash button and the trash basket. I then move what I want via drag to the desktop. So far in 13.10 this is failing (see the attached image). I don't know if this is a new "feature" or what. In looking at the changes documents I haven't seen this mentioned, so I thought it would work like it used to.
If I have posted this in the incorrect place I'm sorry. If this is explained elsewhere I'm sorry - but I haven't found it.
3.7.07 kernel update broke ATI driver
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: April 25, 2013
I have manually installed the binary driver from AMD's website. I have actually done it many times in the past and whenever a new kernel update comes out it generally breaks my drivers, so I simply rebuild the thing for the new kernel and reboot. It's a bit of a pain but this is a laptop and therefore I cannot install a new card. The fglrx driver from the repo is outdated and performance is horrible when I use it so I have to manually install. For all previous kernels the installation worked fine, but for 3.7.0-7 it seems permanently broken.
I actually had to reinstall everything the other day due to a hard drive that crashed and was no longer bootable. After putting in a new hard drive and reinstalling, I was up and running with the 3.5.0 kernel. Then this morning I updated to 3.7.0-7 and this time when I tried to install I get an error about missing version.h in the log:
$ cat /usr/share/ati/fglrx-install.log
Supported adapter detected.

syslinux 4.0.6 error (copyright?)

I'm Sandra and I really need some help.
The first thing of all is that I was trying to install Ubuntu 12.10 with my USB stick, used also universal USB downloader for the ISO file.
When I press F12 to switch there was something written like in the title. I've been searching on google and other stuff to find out how to remove it.
I have the feeling i'm not the first one who's asking help for this, but my ADHD head is so much confused right now. I used Ubuntu couple years ago and my jailbroken iphone works also with commands so i'm not a huge noob.. only confused.
What I found on internet was a ubcd520.iso file what i've installed, and made a try again but failed.
Does someone please know what to do? Honesly i'm almost desperate after 4,5 hours.
FreeWRL1.07 Install java class errors

Hi I am having trouble installing FreeWRL1.07 on mdk 9.1.
The instructions are: #perl Makefile.PL #make #make install
I have all the perl modules installed. I have installed j2re-1_4_2_05-linux-i586.rpm successfully and mozilla picks up the plug-in.

Screen freezes on USB load at syslinux copyright message
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: January 13, 2011
I have used Universal USB Installer to extract the xubuntu 10.10 iso and install onto a flash drive. I would like to try a live version of xubuntu that boots from a flash drive.
When attempting to boot from the flash drive, the screen effectively freezes after displaying the syslinux / ebios copyright message, with a flashing cursor.
Does anyone know a possible cause or solution?
Information that may be useful:
I am using a 4GB flash drive, formatted as FAT32. I formatted once using the Universal USB Installer, but some files were left on the drive, so I have reformatted it using the option provided by the Windows interface, (and reinstalled xubuntu.)
When I opt to install onto USB with a 2GB persistence file using Universal USB Installer, the installation processes hangs with a dialogue saying there are 0 seconds left to copy, until the dialogue is forcefully shut (and installation appears to be successful). When I select no persistence file, the process does not hang.
