Icon positions on top panel in Gnome Classic in 12.04 LTS
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: May 7, 2012
I'm using 64-bit Ubuntu 12.04 LTS on a Thinkpad W500. I installed gnome-panel, so I use 12.04 via the GNOME Classic session. (Details are described here: http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2012/03/g...-ever-changed/ )
I guess this is called "Gnome 3" and we had "Gnome 2.x" in Ubuntu 10.04. Anyway, my question is regarding the top panel, where I've placed icons as shortcuts to common programs (eg, Firefox, Chrome, Pidgin). In previous versions of Gnome, the icon would stick wherever I dragged it to. Now that's changed; now it auto-justifies to the right or to the left. So the only freedom I have is whether the icon is in the "left" group or the "right" group (on the top panel), and the ordering therein. I strongly preferred having the freedom to place each icon anywhere along the top panel.
Is there any way to disable this auto-alignment? Thanks in advance.
Remove icons from top bar (gnome classic)
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: October 19, 2011
So, I have several icons on the top bar (dock?) such as Firefox, Pidgin and a folder I accidentally dragged there.
If I right click, I only get the options Launch and Properties. No remove!
This is just a terrible experience. Can you guess why Windows doesn't radically change their GUI every release? Almost as if people hate the GUI they're used to being changed around...

Problem opening iTunes download with Wine with Ubuntu
location: linuxquestions.com - date: April 16, 2011
I've run into some problems while trying to install iTunes onto my system (Ubuntu 10.10) using Wine. I've installed Wine and configured everything properly, and then I download iTunes. I've tried downloading several versions, including 7.2 (older version) and the newest version (iTunes 10). However, when I try to open this downloaded file, I get the message:
End-of-central-directory signature not found. Either this file is not
a zipfile, or it constitutes one disk of a multi-part archive. In the
latter case the central directory and zipfile comment will be found on
the last disk(s) of this archive.
