[SOLVED] How do I download the KDE desktop (Kubuntu) when I already have Ubuntu v.1210?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: January 12, 2013
I would have dowloaded Kubuntu directly via wubi, but it wouldn't work. I read somewhere that you can download the KDE environment on Ubuntu anyway, so I went ahead and downloaded Ubuntu again.
Where do I go to download the environment? I checked the Ubuntu Software Center and I tried using a search engine, yet I come across no relevant results.
Could somebody please give me a push in the right direction?
Wubi Ubuntu install from download problem Install files not found
location: linuxquestions.com - date: April 18, 2011
Hello - I am trying to install Ubuntu on my Toshiba Satellite 5205-S703 laptop with WinXP Home. The CD/DVD drive no longer works so I have to use the download installer. In fact, I hope to install Ubuntu to help me determine whether the CD/DVD problems are hardware or software related. The computer has no provision to boot from USB either. The download went fine, but as soon as installation started this error message popped up: "An error occured. Could not retrieve the required files. For more information, please see the log file: c:\docume~1\toshiba\locals~1\temp\wubi-10.04.1-rev190.log". I looked at the log and its contents are way above my pay grade. I can post it if that would help. Thanks!

[SOLVED] just installed ubuntu 10.10 slow download speed
location: linuxquestions.com - date: February 13, 2011
i have just installed ubuntu 10.10 and i have noticed that my download speed is quite slow. i have an excellent connection to the internet and i didn't have any speed problems when i used windows vista. (i'm using a friend's windows 7 os right now and everything is fine.) how do i modify the download/bandwidth feature that is naturally a part of the ubuntu package so that it's not a problem anymore? the most i think i saw it download packages and files was 37 kb/s.
basically, the kind of downloads i'm doing are for installing new packages to ubuntu, and that took ages. i even tried to download ubuntu 10.04 from ubuntu.com and it would have taken almost 3 hours to complete!
i looked on this site already for answers and much of what i came across didn't apply or i didn't understand it (so it might have applied but i'm just to clueless right now). if there is a post here about the exact same thing and you know where it is, please direct me to it and i'll look through it.

Ubuntu limits my download speed
location: linuxquestions.com - date: March 12, 2011
ok im relatively new to ubuntu and i realised that although before when i had windows7 my relative download speed was around 5.0 MB/s ( i have a 50MB virgin connection)now with ubuntu 10.10 im limited to only 2.8MB/s or somewhere around there.
First i tested my wireless speed on another laptop (with windows 7) on the same network and the speed was as i said around 5.0MB/s sometimes even more. So i thought it was only chrome that i was using at that point. However, this download speed limitation appears in jdownloader as well as in firefox and i guess the whole system.
SO im wondering if there is any way to set up the speed limit on the system and if there is, how should do i go ahead with this change, through the terminal or through preferences?

And I'm a little new to linux, so yeah.
But I installed it and everything was fine until I tried to use the internet.
Somehow, I can't find how to connect with wireless? I'm using Ubuntu 8.04 btw.
But I'm only allowed to connect with Wired Connections, and some other connection?
I've been googling for hours but can't find a solution.
Thanks to anyone who helps me!
