Acer travelmate hangs on new versions of ubuntu, xubuntu, fedora and linux mint 13
location: linuxquestions.com - date: August 20, 2012
The last few years I have been using my acer travelmate laptop as a dual boot system. I have used next to XP several different versions of ubuntu or LinuxMint. The only thing I had to add was a windows-driver for the wifi. That is up until 12.04!!! Every time I tried to install a version of Ubuntu, Fedora or LinuxMint the system hangs. With Ubuntu itself the system got stuck when i tried to check the disk while on live CD mode. I didn't even get to the terminal befor the system stopped in its tracks. I tried the newest version of Debian which worked perfect. The only problem I got there was that Grub didn't show my XP partition. My idea was that maybe Debian doesn't use the newest linux kernel as I also retried to install kubuntu 11.04 without problems. In short my system seems to hang on all the new versions of Linux distributions exept for Debian. What is happening here? Is it the Linux kernel or something else? If it is the kernel, how can I install a new version of Xubuntu for exam
Linux Mint on an Acer netbook help
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: June 15, 2013
I am brand new to the world of Linux. I have heard great things and want to put linuxmint on my old acer aspire one ZA3. It currently runs Windows Vista Basic and is painfully slow.
I downloaded linuxmint via torrent and converted it with Vuze. I then used a iso to usb downloader and put it on usb. I set the boot menu to boot from usb. However when I do this, and select f12 it then tells me to remove any devises and or media and hit any key to continue. I left in the usb and hit enter and windows still loads up.
Can anyone help me, what have I done wrong... why wont it work?

Touchpad not working on Acer C720 Chromebook
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: November 26, 2013
The Acer C720 Chromebook runs really well with Ubuntu (installed with Chrubuntu) dual-booting with ChromeOS. The only problem is that there is no support for the touchpad in the default Ubuntu kernels.
When installing Ubuntu 13.10 or newer the Chrubuntu script automatically downloads and compiles in some kernel patches from Chromium developer Benson Leung (https://plus.google.com/+BensonLeung/posts/EJUSUudzHb3). Unfortunately this automatic process doesn't work for the 12.04 LTS:
Get Acer C720 touchpad working in Chrubuntu 12.04 LTS
Building the kernel modules (once-off for each kernel version)
- Install Ubuntu 13.10 or later in a VM
- On VM: sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
- On VM: reboot so most recent kernel is running
- On VM: Run cros-haswell-modules.sh, which is part of the Chrubuntu installation scripts (https://googledrive.com/host/0B0YvUu...ell-modules.sh)
- On VM:
mkdir ~/Download/chrome-kernel; cd ~/Download/chrome-kernel
apt-get download linux-headers-`uname -r` li
Graphics acceleration not working on Acer Aspire One 722 using Linux Mint 10 Julia
location: linuxquestions.com - date: September 11, 2011
I recently bought an Acer Aspire One 722 and installed Linux Mint on it. Everything is working well except for the graphics card; I am stuck in Vesa mode. I tried installing the proprietary fglrx driver but it didn't work; aticonfig says "aticonfig: No supported adapters detected". Googleing says that this graphics card is on the supported list. Any idea how to get it working?
Linux Mint 12 & Asus Eee PC 901 touchpad
location: linuxquestions.com - date: February 29, 2012
I revitalized an Asus PC 901 whose SSDs had gone South, and decided to do it with Mint 12. It works fine, but it needs an external mouse, since the touchpad seems not to be recognized (I did go to the relevant configuration window, but it seems not to have any effect). I don't know if this is a Mint issue, and I'll try Ubuntu (which was the distro running before), but maybe someone knows something about this, Thanks.
HP G42 Touchpad help Linux mint 10
location: linuxquestions.com - date: May 2, 2011
Just today my touch pad has stopped working. I have touchpad indicator installed and it has been working as promised, disabling the touch pad when the mouse is plugged in and then enabling the pad once it is removed.
For some reason it has stopped working and I cannot get the touch pad to work at all now. I have tried the following:
1. re-installing the touchpad indicator apt and updating it. Nothing. Configured it and nothing. Een clicking on the indicator and clicking 'enable touchpad' has no effect.
2. Made sure the touchpad is enabled in the keyboard menu and nothing.
3. Checked 'pointing devices' and made sure the touchpad is on.
4. typed 'touchpad' in synaptic and seems everything is fine.
Any ideas? I am not sure what happened but really want my touch pad back. Running mint 10 gnome 32.

Acer Aspire One with Linux Mint webcam/mic
location: linuxquestions.com - date: March 25, 2009
I have looked for quite some time for information about this, but still can't find any. Hence the thread...
I have an Acer Aspire One netbook, which originally ran Windows XP. After an amusing series of events XP got wiped and replaced with Linux Mint. So far it's much better, but I can't get the built-in webcam or mic to work.
Does anybody know of anything I can do to resolve this?
