Linux vs. OS X (Honest answers please!)
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: October 17, 2008
Yeah, I know that OSX is Darwin with Aqua and all of the closed-source apple apps thrown on top...
My question is what are the advantages/disadvantages of OS X vs. Linux considering they're both (loosely) UNIX based? Advantages both in the nitty gritty of the OS and the interface of either.
Already, using the Mac, one large plus is that it has bash, rather than that horrible shell that comes with Windows, and the ugliness that is Cygwin...

So i recently converted to a dual boot of Linux and Windows, and i was really digging the interface and feature of Linux Ubuntu. I've tried various methods of installing the driver to no avail; HELP PLEASE!!
BOSS BR1600 Digital Recording Studio....Help please?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: February 9, 2009
I own a BOSS BR-1600 Digital Recording Studio and I am having problems trying to export my completed songs to my laptop running Ubuntu Studio 8.10. The laptop is a Dell Inspiron 1420.
In a nutshell I suppose I'm asking how to accomplish the task at hand.
Here's what happens: On my device (the br-1600) I select the USB function. From there I select EXPORT and then I select the tracks I would like to export to my laptop (ex Tracks 9/10 - 2 ...my completed and mastered song). At that point my device writes the file and prepares it for the transfer as a WAV file. It then attempts to connect to the computer through USB.
What is supposed to happen at that point is similar to adding a thumb drive or an external usb drive... I am supposed to be able to navigate and find the correct folder and file to copy over to the laptop from the device.
What actually happens is an error on my device and no changes on the laptop.
Is there anyone out there who can help me? I will be greatl

JoliCloud OS Problem Please, help me!
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: March 25, 2013
I got a big problem with Joli Cloud OS.
I downloaded JoliCloud OS and created a Live USB. Booted from it. Then, at the boot splash, it says Configuring Nvidia Drivers... The screen flickers for a little while. Then, the text goes out, just splash screen. Now, it does nothing. I wait 10 minutes, but still nothing. Pressing Esc hides the splash screen, but it says now this:
X: Fatal error:
No screens found. ---> WTF???
Can anyone help with this?
I really need Joli Cloud OS now...
Please recommend a distribution for my mediacenter
location: linux.com - date: May 29, 2010
I'm trying to build a Media Center and I wanted to put Linux on it. Ideally, I'm looking for something that can be easily controlled with a remote control. Also: Linux isn't really mandatory. If you have a suggestion that is better than Linux, I'd love to hear it (and why it's better).

Touchscreen works in Fedora and OpenSUSE, but not Ubuntu, please help!
location: linuxquestions.com - date: April 22, 2012
I've spent two weeks on this, its driving me insane. I've posted everywhere with no help.
My friend gave me a prototype tablet and the touchscreen works in Win7, OpenSUSE, Fedora and MeeGo, but i can't get it to work in Ubuntu and I don't know why.
I've contacted the manufacturer of the tablet, and the touchscreen and they're telling me they don't and won't support Linux. is there something i can do to use whatever is making it work in Fedora and OpenSUSE to make it work in Ubuntu?
