Having trouble installing fedora firsttime linux install.
location: linuxquestions.com - date: August 31, 2009
so i have this computer that has windows vista home premium on it. i cannot afford to buy another O/S or else i would get XP for this task. i need to install Fedora and i got a 100GB HDD for the class (it is a linux admin class) and currently it has nothing installed on it. i was told by someone that it if i want to dual-boot then i need to have the O/S's on the same drive. i have one more install of Vista Black 64-bit which i can put on the drive.
i know that i need to make partitions for each element of fedora, such as /, /home and swap. am i going to have any problems installing fedora? also, i have to install it from a download. i don't have a disc drive i can burn an ISO with.
Installing Linux Mint Debian advice?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: January 7, 2012
You guys are really good with this so I would like to get your opinion on something I am going to start today.
Ready to power up my machine tonight and test Linux Mint Debian Xfce, or should I try one of the many other distros? We will soon find out. I would like to hear a basic description of how to install Linux Mint Debian. I am still fairly new to Linux. I struggled with Ubuntu only because it was on a netbook. Still I am a Linux fan. This will now be on a PC.
If someone could give me a quick break down of the installation. Such as for Ubuntu it is easy to understand as>
3. Download onto 8GB flashdrive
4. Restart computer
5. Boot into BIOS
6. Set Sandisk at the top
7. Exit BIOS
8. Install Ubuntu
If I remember right this is how installing Ubuntu went basically.
I tried watching a video on Youtube, but they were on virtual machines I think except for one, but I would like to hear your advice as well.
problem in installing skype on linux mint 6?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: April 16, 2009
i recently installed mint 6 (felicia)..i need to install skype on it. I downloaded debian package from http://www.skype.com/download/skype/linu... ... when i click it to install, the first message appears:
" an older version is available in a software channel.
Generally you are recommended to install the version from the software channel, since it is usually better supported."
there is only option of doing it ok.
after it when i click install package...after some time a message appears..
"could not download all required files.
please check your Internet connection or installation medium."
whereas, my Internet is working. i am able to browse the net. so there seems no problem with Internet.
no idea about the "installation medium"
Installing and using the module "gfilestorage.ko" on Linux (Ubuntu/Debian)
location: linuxquestions.com - date: April 30, 2014
I have a kernel Linux Debian Wheezy 3.2.0-4-686-pae for i686 Gnu/Linux. I would like to share a disk fat32 over USB between two computers Notebooks.
Is it possible? Will I damage the notebooks, if both the usb ports are plugged together. Actually is it possibel since it exists no USB 2 USB cables for such an operation. Furthermore, I am talking of two usb 2.0 regular size USB ports (and not the OTG mini USB).
Installing Ubuntu on a Macbook with Linux Mint
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: October 31, 2013
I have a Macbook which I installed Linux Mint on a while back. I did not use a partition to keep OSX on it, so it only has Linux Mint. I decided I'd like to install Ubuntu on it, but I cannot get the Macbook to boot Ubuntu from DVD or USB. I installed rEFIt on it, which is how I installed Linux Mint on it in the first place, but now I can't access rEFIt. Any ideas?

Installing Adobe Digital Editions using WINE
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: February 19, 2008
At present Adobe Digital Editions does not support LINUX with a promissed version due in the future.
I need to run Adobe Digital Editions (DE) to make use of an academic website (Athens) that uses the DRM elements of DE to loan out articles to the user for a defined period of time.
Two pre requirements of DE when running on Vista are: Adobe Flash 9.0 and Adobe READER 8.0. I have got both these running using the linux versions of the software.
I had hoped to run DE using WINE, but I am figuring that as the application is a Rich Internet Application (RIA) it does not download and install as a normal .exe file.
Any clues or help? Are their any alternatives?
